  • Μgraphiline

Open Access•Kacper Kłosok, Maksymilian Jędrzejowski et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2026•Referências: 19

Radiocarbon dating by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) requires transforming samples into graphite, a step that typically depends on liquid nitrogen and high-purity carrier gases, increasing both cost and operational complexity. We present μGRAPHILINE, a fully automated, modular combustion–graphitization line that removes these dependencies by combining dual-zone combustion with iron–zinc reduction. Performance was evaluated on more than 180 s…

  • Temporal Stability of Climatic Signal Recorded by Stable Carbon Isotope Composition of Tree Rings Α-Cellulose—a Case Study for Suwałki Region

Open Access•ławomira Pawełczyk, Anna Pazdur et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Referências: 42

Investigations of stable carbon isotope composition in α-cellulose extracted from tree rings of pines ( Pinus sylvestris L.) growing in the unpolluted Suwałki region, northeastern part of Poland, are undertaken. The presented carbon isotope record covers the period of 1931–2003. Values of δ 13 C measured in the tree ring α-cellulose are compared to meteorological data. These δ 13 C values in tree ring cellulose respond to summer temperature, inso…

  • Retreatment of Bone Material in the Gliwice Radiocarbon Laboratory Using Ultrafiltration

Open Access•Fatima Pawełczyk, Magdalena Niedziałkowska et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Referências: 49

Preparation of bones for radiocarbon ( 14 C) dating is still quite a challenge for researchers. The methods are being tested and improved, to increase reliability of dating results and to verify the previous ones. In this work, a set of gelatine samples, extracted from Cervus elaphus and Cervus canadensis bones from various sites in Europe and a set of human bones from archaeological sites in Poland were subjected to retreatment using ultrafiltra…

  • A Twelve-Hundred-Year Stable Oxygen Isotope Chronology Constructed Using Subfossil Wood From Schwarzensee Lake, Austrian Alps

Open Access•Marzena Kłusek, Michael Grabner et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2022•Referências: 20

This study presents a new stable oxygen isotope chronology, covering the years 800–2000 AD, constructed using modern and subfossil wood derived from trees growing around Lake Schwarzensee in Austria. The climatic signal imparted in the chronology is conditioned mainly by the direct influence of environmental factors on the isotopic signature of source water, which in turn is regulated by evaporation and condensation mechanisms. The second driver …

  • Intraindividual and interpopulation variability in carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios of bone collagen in the modern red deer (Cervus elaphus)

Open Access•Maciej Sykut, ławomira Pawełczyk et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2020•Citada por: 1•Referências: 18

  • Human Activity Recorded in Carbon Isotopic Composition of Atmospheric CO 2 in Gliwice Urban Area and Surroundings (Southern Poland) in the Years 2011–2013

Open Access•Natalia Piotrowska, Anna Pazdur et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2020•Citada por: 4•Referências: 39

In this paper, a record of the 14 C and 13 C isotope content of atmospheric CO 2 for Gliwice is presented for samples collected on a weekly basis in the years 2011–2013. In addition, measurements were performed on the early and late wood from the annual rings of pine trees from five sites located 3–6 km from the atmospheric CO 2 sampling point. The concentration of 14 C in CO 2 samples from the air was much lower relative to the concentration of …

  • Radiocarbon AMS Dating of Mesolithic Human Remains from Poland

Open Access•Natalia Piotrowska, Jacek Tomczyk et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Citada por: 3•Referências: 34

Biological studies on Mesolithic human remains from the Polish region are a rare subject of scientific research due to the limited number of these relics and their poor state of preservation. From the project titled “Old material with new methods: Using the latest bio-chemical analysis in studies of Mesolithic human remains from the Polish areas,” the radiocarbon ( 14 C) dating of bones using accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) has been performed…

  • Carbon Isotope Composition of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide in Southern Poland

Open Access•Anna Pazdur, Tadeusz Kuc et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Citada por: 6•Referências: 22

Southern Poland is home to numerous large mining and energy industry facilities, which consume relatively great amounts of fossil fuels. Temporal and spatial distribution of CO 2 emissions to the atmosphere were estimated on the basis of 13 C and 14 C isotope measurements in atmospheric CO 2 and in α-cellulose from pine tree rings. The Suess effect was evaluated in the atmospheric CO 2 from the High Tatra Mountains (Kasprowy Wierch) and the urban…

  • Carbon Isotopes in Tree Rings

Open Access•Anna Pazdur, Toshio Nakamura et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2007•Citada por: 13•Referências: 16

New records of δ 13 C and Δ 14 C values in annual rings of pine and oak from different sites around the world were obtained with a time resolution of 1 yr. The results obtained for Europe (Poland), east Asia (Japan), and South America (Peru) are presented in this paper. The δ 13 C and radiocarbon concentration of α-cellulose from annual tree rings of pine and of the latewood of oak were measured by both accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and liq…

  • Carbon Isotopic Composition of Tree Rings as A Tool for Biomonitoring CO 2 Level

Open Access•ławomira Pawełczyk, Sławomira Pawełczyk et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2004•Citada por: 8•Referências: 15

Carbon isotopes are widely used as indicators in the study of atmospheric CO 2 variability in space and time. Preliminary results are part of a project investigating 13 C and 14 C concentration changes during the last 150 yr in Poland, both in industrial and ecologically clean regions, using annual tree rings ( Pinus sylvestris, Populus nigra ). The results describe the local Suess effect recorded in the industrial Kraków and Upper Silesia region…

  • Changes of 14 C Concentration in Modern Trees from Upper Silesia Region, Poland

    Open Access•Andrzej Rakowski, Andrzej Z Rakowski et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2001•Citada por: 8•Referências: 8

Radiocarbon concentration measurements in tree rings from Upper Silesia indicate significantly lower 14 C concentration as compared to the concentrations occurring in “clean air” areas. This phenomenon is known as the Suess effect and is caused by contamination with inactive carbon that originates from fossil fuels combustion. This effect is observed in large urban and industrial areas. Samples for the measurements presented in the paper were col…
