Operationalizing the One Health approach at the intersection of research and development
Small-scale livestock farming remains central to food security and income-generation in several low and middle countries (LMIC), but it can also be an important source of zoonoses in areas where access to water and sanitation is poor. The role played by women in this sector is often overlooked. ELUZO is an international, intersectoral, and multidisciplinary One Health project that aims to reduce the impact of zoonotic diseases and empower women i…
Navigating Pandemic Hardships

Connecting Health Promotion and Sustainable Development Goals to Enhance the Health of Agrifood Temporary Migrant Workers—a Scoping Review
Temporary migrant workers (TMW) in the agrifood system face social determinants of health (SDoH) that contribute to health inequities. Despite their dual residency, the potential of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to support the health of TMW remains underexamined. SDG transformations provide a framework for implementing interventions and policies. This scoping review aimed to map health promotion interventions and policies for agrifood T…

Association between food security status and dietary patterns in a cohort of first-time food-aid users
Protecting traditional cultural food practices
Adults from six racial/ethnic minority groups had higher diet quality and lower UPF intake, whereas Indigenous adults had poorer diet quality and higher UPF intake compared to White adults between 2004 and 2015. Absolute and relative dietary gaps remained largely stable. Findings suggest racial/ethnic minority groups may have retained some healthful aspects of their traditional cultural food practices while highlighting persistent dietary inequit…
The Pathways study
Results show that newly registered users of food donation programs often have low-income and severe food insecurity, with major differences across geographical locations. The Pathways study is the first study designed to follow, over a 2-year period, a cohort of newly registered users of food donation programs and to quantify their trajectories of service use. Findings from the Pathways study might help adapt the community response to the strateg…

Advocating for improvements to building codes for the population’s health
Construction codes are a major component of building codes. They provide normative standards by which buildings are designed, built, altered, inspected, and assessed. Persistently high, fall-related injury rates on stairs and in bathrooms indicate that public health advocacy is needed to enhance the passive protection of these codes. Targets and strategies for code improvement advocacy by public health professionals, organizations, and associatio…
