Similarity of Anthropometric Coefficients of Variation in Both Genders
Data on 455 female and 464 male subjects from the World Aquatic Sports Championships in Perth, Australia, in 1991, were used to demonstrate the similarity of variability of 35 anthropometric items and support the use non-gender-biased proportionality models. Effects of skin thickness and skinfold compressibility on skinfold thickness measurement
Variability in both skin thickness and skinfold compressibility affects the relationship between the skinfold caliper reading at a particular site on the body and the actual adipose thickness at that site, thus inducing error in the estimation of body fatness. Five methods of obtaining sitting height were compared by taking triple trials of each. Three methods required that the subjects be seated on a table, the fourth had them sitting on the floor against a wall, and the fifth placed them in a recumbent position. Three trials of the first method were obtained without stretching and with the feet unsupported. These were followed by stretching techniques with subjects seated on the table, first with the…
Relationship of the body mass index with skinfolds, girths, and bone breadths in canadian men and women aged 20–70 years
The relationships of Quetelet index (w/h 2 ), or body mass index (BMI), with the sum of skinfolds at five sites, two skinfold‐corrected limb girths, and two bone breadths were studied in a cross‐sectional sample of 12,282 men and 6,593 women aged 20–70 years. The correlations of the BMI with skinfolds (0.50), bone breadths (0.51), and girths (0.58) were too low for individual prediction. Contingency tables of the BMI and sum of skinfold categorie…
The design of a parallax‐correcting anthropometer for replication in nonspecialized machine shops
A fixed‐rod, slider with a window, a double‐scribed line for viewing a measuring tape affixed to the rod, and a sturdy footpiece are design features of an anthropometer for measuring projected lengths. The new instrument is designed to replace contemporary models which may be inaccessible to investigators with limited budgets or currency restrictions. None of the design features are beyond the ingenuity of local machinists to modify, find alterna…

Urethral Discharge as a Symptom of Psychiatric Disorder
Attention is drawn to the symptom of urethral discharge accompanied by psychiatric disorder. Thirty patients have been studied with this discharge as the chief complaint and 8 patients presenting various nervous complaints in addition. These patients usually showed few or no pus cells in urethral or prostatic smears. Patients have been reported only in whom a definite psychiatric diagnosis was possible, as follows in order of frequency: reactive …

Rorschach records have been made of 50 individuals presenting the symptoms of neurocirculatory asthenia.
