  • Handedness and dermatoglyphic directional and fluctuating asymmetry

    E Kobyliansky, S Micle•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1986

The dermatoglyphics of 650 right-handed and 98 left-handed males were compared. A to tal of 66 variables were used, entailing 24 quantitative dermatoglyphic traits, 11 indices of intraindi vidual diversity, 15 indices of directional asymmetry and 16 indices of fluctuating bilateral asymme try. The data were submitted to principal component and discriminant analyses. In right-handers, the fluctuating asymmetry was reduced and the directional asymm…

  • The dermatoglyphic characteristics of two isolated Bedouin groups from South Sinai

    Open Access•E Kobyliansky, S Micle et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1986•Citada por: 1•Referências: 2

The dermatoglyphics of the Muzeina and Gebeliya Bedouin tribes, two small biologically isolated populations, leading a similar nomadic life under the specific conditions of the Sinai desert, were studied. The differences found between the studied samples concern particularly the frequencies of palmar and finger pattern types. These differences are in agreement with data on the origin of the tribes, a Negro and/or European admixture being evident …

  • Finger patterns characteristics as determinants of total ridge count variability

    Open Access•E Kobyliansky, S Micle•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1986•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

The total ridge count (TRC) was viewed as a common composite trait with definite correlations between its components — the ridge counts (RC) of individual fingers. The TRC variability was accordingly examined as a function of the variability of these components. The distribution of pattern types on the fingers, the RC of patterns per total as well as per finger location, and the mean finger RC were all analyzed in relation to the RC variability a…

  • AB0, MNSs and Rhesus blood group systems in some Jewish populations of Israel

    E Kobyliansky, S Micle et al.•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1982

The ABO, MNSs and Rhesus blood group systems were investigated in Israeli Jews. In total 1452 individuals were tested for ABO blood groups and of these, 955 for MNSs and 943 for Rhe sus blood group systems. Six groups deriving from Eastern, Central and Southern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Yemen were compared. The frequencies of the phenotypes, genes and gene-complexes were calculated. The shortest genetic distance was found between …

  • Jewish populations of the world

Open Access•E Kobyliansky, S Micle et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1982

In six Jewish populations from Eastern, Central and Southern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Yemen, the frequencies of 30 genes from 13 loci were determined. The calculation of genetic distances between these populations as well as a cluster analysis were done. The gene frequencies of these six populations were computed together with those of 19 other Jewish populations of diverse countries described in the literature. Of the 19 populat…

  • Bioassay of Kinship in Populations of Middle Eastern Origin and Controls [and Comments and Replies]

    Newton E Morton, Ron S Kenett et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1982•Citada por: 6

Gene frequencies for 32 populations show 3 Jewish and 4 gentile clusters. From phenotype frequencies the estimate of inbreeding F is .0110 for populations in the Middle East and .0002 for other populations. Differentiation of populations in the region is small (F =.026) compared with that of the species as a whole (F =.146). Kinship between populations is appreciable within clusters but much less within the total Jewish and gentile groups (.004 a…

  • Handedness, hand-clasping and arm-folding in Israeli males

Open Access•E Kobyliansky, S Micle et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1978

Comparative analysis of handedness, hand-clasping and arm-folding frequencies in four groups of adult Israel Jewish males of East European origin (N=562), Central European origin (N=165), Middle Eastern origin (N=191), and North African origin (N=163), indicates a significant similarity between the groups. A high percentage of left-handed individuals was observed in all groups except the Middle Eastern one. Right-hand clasping and left arm-foldin…

  • ABO‐typing of ancient skeletons from Israel

    Open Access•S Micle, E Kobilyansky et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1977•Citada por: 1•Referências: 16

Sixty‐eight ancient skeletons, unearthed at Jerusalem and En Gedi and, according to the archeological data belonging to Jewish residents of these places from about 1,600 to 2,000 years ago, were ABO‐typed by means of the hemagglutination‐inhibition test. The blood groups of 13 skeletons were undiagnosable and the remaining 55 showed the following distribution: 30.91% A‐group, 14.54% B‐group, 50.91% AB‐group and 3.64% O‐group. According to these f…
