  • Microsatellite polymorphisms in Bolivian squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis)

    Open Access•Shelly M Witte, Jeffrey Rogers•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•1999

Two different approaches were used to identify new microsatellite polymorphisms among captive Bolivian squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis). In the first case, PCR primers for published human microsatellite loci were screened using genomic DNA from squirrel monkeys. Six polymorphic loci were identified using DNA samples from 19 unrelated individuals. The average heterozygosity among these six loci is 0.73. In the second set of experiments, a DN…

  • Teratoma with trisomy 16 in a baboon (Papio hamadryas)

Open Access•Charleen M Moore, Jennifer McKeand et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•1998

A teratoma was found during a planned cesarean section in a 10-year-old primigravida baboon. This teratoma had a female sex chromosome complement and trisomy for chromosome 16. This is the first report of a teratoma in a baboon and the first report of a chromosomal abnormality in a nonhuman primate teratoma. It is also the first case in a nonhuman primate to address the mechanism of origin. Through the use of genetic markers from human chromosome…

  • Microsatellite Variation in Two Populations of Free-Ranging Yellow Baboons (Papio hamadryas cynocephalus)

  • Interspecific variation at the Y‐linked RPS4Y locus in hominoids

    Open Access•Paul B Samollow, Lynn M Cherry et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1996

Within- and between-species variation in restriction endonuclease recognition sites was examined at the Y-linked RPS4Y locus of six hominoid species: human (Homo sapiens), gorilla (Gorilla gorilla), chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), bonobo (Pan paniscus), orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), and gibbon (Hylobates lar). RPS4Y is an expressed gene that maps to the non-recombining region of the Y chromosome. An approximately 1,490 base pair fragment of the RPS4Y…
