Excavation of two burials at Galson, Isle of Lewis, 1993 and 1996
Two burials of Iron Age date were recorded at Galson during rescue excavations in 1993 and 1996, as a result of erosion of the steep, north-facing sand-dune face, which rises over 6 m between the shingle beach and a field wall.This erosion face is the site of a well-known cemetery and settlement extending in date at least from the Iron Age to the Norse period.The burials are placed in the context of past discoveries at Galson and a brief consider…

A Viking Age cemetery at Cnip, Uig, Isle of Lewis
Six burials of ninth--tenth-century date recorded between 1991 and 1994, plus one tenth-century burial recorded in 1979, lead to the suggestion that the headland was a Viking cemetery area. There is an appendix `Surface collection of artefacts' by Tim Neighbour & Andrew Dunwell (747--9)

Cist burial of a six or seven year old, accompanied by a Late Northern/Step 5 beaker; evidence complicated by the presence in the beaker of a fragment of lead glass. A R
Two beaker burials from Keabog, Pitdrichie, near Drumlithie, Kincardine and Deeside
Two short cists revealed by gravel quarrying each contained an adult male inhumation with skull and other injuries, a late Northern beaker and, in one case, a large flint flake knife. Radiocarhon dates for both skeletons centre on c 1760 bc. A R

A simple univariate technique for determining sex from fragmentary femora
A simple univariate technique for sexing individuals represented by fragmentary skeletal remains is described. The results obtained were highly consistent (about 90%) with those obtained by conventional analysis of pelvic and cranial morphology. It is suggested that using maximum anteroposterior diameter of the femoral shaft as a sex discriminator has advantages over midshaft circumference even when intact femora are available
