  • Frequencies of Occurrence of Accessory Tubercles and Other Traits in the Lower Deciduous Second Molar

Open Access•Eisaku Kanazawa, Mitsuo Sekikawa et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1992

The frequencies of occurrence of anomalous traits or tubercles on the lower second deciduous molar were investigated with the use of moire contourgraphy. A molar with negligible attrition was fixed in the tricuspal position where the position of the protoconid, metaconid and hypoconid were in a horizontal plane. A moire photograph in the pitch of 0.2 mm was thus obtained and examined. The frequency of occurrence of a tubercle was counted in three…

  • The Frequencies of Accessory Tubercles and Other Traits in the Upper Deciduous Second Molar

Open Access•Eisaku Kanazawa, Mitsuo Sekikawa et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1992

Small irregular cuspules or tubercles are often seen on the occlusal table of the human deciduous molar as well as the permanent molar. These frequencies were investigated semi-quantitatively with the use of moire contourography. The moire photographs of the occlusal surface were taken with the tips of the paracone, protocone and metacone aligned in a horizontal plane parallel to the grating of the moire contourography. Contour interval was set a…

  • Cuspal ridges of deciduous upper second molars in Japanese subjects

Open Access•Mitsuo Sekikawa, Eisaku Kanazawa et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1990

The occlusal surfaces of deciduous upper second molars were photographed by moire contourography using the standard trigonal plane. The ridges of a cusp, omprising a central ridge and the mesial and distal accessory ridges, were identified by the patterns of the moire fringes. The central ridge was present on all cusps except for the hypocone in both sexes. Frequencies of the two accessory ridges on trigonal cusps exceeded 60% except for the dist…

  • A quantitative investigation of irregular cuspules in human maxillary permanent molars

Open Access•Eisaku Kanazawa, Mitsuo Sekikawa et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1990•Citada por: 4•Referências: 19

The frequency of occurrence of anomalous cusps or tubercles on human upper first molars was investigated in seven racial populations using moiré contourography, which permits the three‐dimensional measurement of minute cusps. Tubercles on the mesial marginal ridge were more frequently found in Mongoloid populations (Japanese and Eskimo) than in others. The frequency of the protoconule was high in Eskimos and Negroids (Bantu and San). The lingual …

  • Three-dimensional measurement of the occlusal surface the upper first molar in South African samples

Open Access•Eisaku Kanazawa, Donald H Morris et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1988

Three-dimensional measurement of the occlusal table of the upper first maxillary molar in three racial populations in South Africa was carried out with the use of moire contourography. Three populations were San Bushman, Central Sotho Bantu (Negroid) and Asiatic Indian (Caucasian). Their dental casts had been collected in 1968-1969 in Botswana and Lenasia by Nuffield Foundation and are now housed in Arizona State University. A moire photograph of…

  • Comparative study of the upper molar occlusal table morphology among seven human populations

    Open Access•Eisaku Kanazawa, Donald H Morris et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1988•Citada por: 2•Referências: 25

Three‐dimensional morphology of the occlusal table of the upper first molars was compared in seven racial populations. Materials were moiré contourograms collected by ourselves over 5 years. Intercuspal distances and cuspal heights were comparatively studied in this analysis. When the populations were arranged in the order of these sizes, their arrangements based on intercuspal distances and cuspal heights were quite different from each other. Wh…

  • Three‐dimensional measurement of the occlusal surfaces of lower first molars of Australian aboriginals

    Open Access•Mitsuo Sekikawa, J Akai et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1986•Citada por: 5•Referências: 16

The occlusal surfaces of lower first molars of Australian Aboriginals were measured in three dimensions with the aid of Moiré contourography. Molar cuspal heights in this population were higher than in Japanese (Mongoloid) but lower than in Dutch (Caucasoid) populations. Intercuspal distances were considerably larger than those in the two other populations. Populational differences in occlusal features may influence both craniofacial structures a…

  • Allometric Variation on Cuspal Areas of the Lower First Molar in Three Racial Populations

Open Access•Eisaku Kanazawa, Mitsuo Sekikawa et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1985

Cusp areas of the mandibular first molar were measured in five groups of three racial populations: Japanese male and female, Dutch, and Australian Aboriginals male and female. Total values of five cusp areas were the largest in Aboriginals, 114.9mm2, and the smallest in Dutch, 96.1 mm2. Percent cusp areas (% of total area) do not show population differences. However, there was a tendency that the proportion of these five areas in Aboriginals appr…
