  • Prediction of childhood problems at three years in children experiencing disorders of regulation during infancy

    Open Access•Georgia A Degangi, Cecilia Breinbauer et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2000•Referências: 13

The objective of this study was to determine if symptoms of regulatory disorder (RD) during infancy were related to clinical status at three years. Two age-matched RD groups based on severity (N = 10 in mild RD group; N = 22 in moderate–severe RD group) and an age-matched control group (N = 38) were evaluated at 7 and 30 months. A fourth group with pervasive developmental disorders (N = 18) also were tested. Problems with self-regulation, includi…

  • Four-year follow-up of a sample of regulatory disordered infants

    Open Access•Georgia A Degangi, Stephen W Porge et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•1993•Referências: 14

In this prospective descriptive study, the developmental outcomes of 9 untreated infants with moderate to severe regulatory disorders were examined at 8 to 11 months and again at 4 years of age and compared with 13 normal infants. Regulatory disordered infants were defined as being behaviorally difficult, exhibiting disturbances in sleep, feeding, state control, self-calming, and mood regulation and evidencing poor sensory processing. Eight of th…

  • The Development of the Ego

    Open Access•Stanley I Greenspan•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1989•Citada por: 1•Referências: 9

This paper suggests that differences in early sensory processing, integration, and differentiation, contribute, in highly specific ways, to characteristics of the ego, deficits in ego functions, and the ego's tendency to employ certain defenses (when certain pathogenic environmental experiences are present). Specifically (1) auditory-verbal-affective vulnerabilities may be associated with disorders of thought and obsessive-compulsive patterns, es…

  • Intelligence Quotient Scores of 4-Year-Old Children

Arnold J Sameroff, Ronald Seifer et al.•ARTICLE•PEDIATRICS•1987

Verbal IQ scores in a socially heterogeneous sample of 215 4-year-old children were highly related to a cumulative environmental risk index composed of maternal, family and cultural variables. Different combinations of equal numbers of risk factors produced similar effects on IQ, providing evidence (1) that no single factor identified here uniquely enhances or limits early intellectual achievement and (2) that cumulative effects from multiple ris…

  • A theoretical overview and empirical study of mediated learning experience

    Open Access•Pnina S Klein, Serena Wieder et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•1987•Referências: 18

This research is based on a 4-year longitudinal study of 51 normal, low SES infants and their mothers. It was conducted at the Clinical Infant Development Program sponsored by the Clinical Infant-Child Development Research Center (NIMH-HRSA). Infants' free-play sessions with their mothers were analyzed at 4, 8, 12, 24, and 36 months of age by use of an observation method based on Feuerstein's theory of Mediated Learning Experience (MLE). The part…

  • The relationship of maternal perception and maternal behavior

Aimée Nover, Aimee G Nover et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1984•Referências: 16

Normal mothers of nine-month-olds generally perceived their infants' behavior accurately. However, where maternal perceptual distortions did occur, they were associated with less maternal responsiveness and greater interference. These correlated with the mothers' anxiety level and with infant sleep problems. Maternal expectations thus seemed to be translated into specific maternal behavior which may be of significance in the child's psychosocial …

  • Identifying the multi-risk family prenatally

Open Access•Serena Wieder, Michael Jasnow et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•1983•Referências: 7

Little is known about the relationship between mother and infant within multiproblem, so-called “hard to reach” families. In an effort to understand factors contributing to problems in caring for the young children of these parents, a group of 47 families was recruited for study by the Clinical Infant Development Program of the National Institute of Mental Health. Serious social pathology was found within 75 percent of families. The lives of moth…

  • Personality characteristics of family day care mothers

    Open Access•Barbara J Silver, Barbara Silver et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•1980•Referências: 2

This study was conducted to provide some data on the personality characteristics of licensed family day care mothers (childhood caregivers), women who might be an appropriate resource in the development of community day care programs. Forty-two women were jointly interviewed by two researchers and their responsibility was rated on an interview rating scale. The women's level of ego development and capacity for interpersonal relations were assesse…

  • Analysis Of A Five-And-A-Half-Year-Old Girl

    Open Access•Stanley I Greenspan•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1980•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

The presentation of the analysis of a five-and-a-half-year-old girl highlighted a personality configuration with multiple fixation points (some preoedipal) organized around an early phallic structure. The sequence of this analysis underscored characteristics of the early phallic phase of development as a transitional phase between dyadic and triadic and preoedipal and oedipal levels. The term dyadic-phallic was introduced to emphasize the special…
