Evaluation of Self-Healing Corrosion Protection Using Benzotriazole-Loaded Mesoporous Silica Nanocontainers for Application on Archaeological Bronze Artefacts
This work evaluates the effectiveness of coating bronze coupons, with 3% Benzotriazole (BTA) -loaded nanocontainers mixed with Paraloid polymer. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) were prepared and loaded with 3% BTA (BTA@MSNs) followed by dispersion in 3% Paraloid B72 and B44. Bronze disc samples with the chemical composition of Cu 85%, Sn 10% and Pb 5% simulating archaeological artifacts were coated with a single and double layer of BTA@MSN…
Rf-Plasma Protective Coating on Silver- Copper Alloys Using Hdmso/O2/Ar Precursors
Due to its excellent adherence to the metal substrate, Hexamethy-ledisiloxan was employed in the present study to create transparent barrier coating films that protect metal artifacts from corrosion. The deposition procedure used radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (RF-PECVD). Using scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), the surfaces o…
Application of Pecvd in the Conservation of Metallic Cultural Heritage
Plasma technology is a modern, non-conventional technique with a wide range of applications in various fields. Plasma-based material processing technology aims to modify the chemical and physical properties of metallic, polymer, textile, and dielectric surfaces. Plasma processing techniques include plasma etching, cleaning, plasma surface activation and functionalization, and plasma deposition. Plasma processing has attracted the attention of cul…
Ancient Mining and Smelting Activities in the W adi A bu G erida Area, Central E astern D esert, E gypt
Old mining and smelting features in the A bu G erida area have been studied using field observations, microscopy and SEM – EDS to detect the ores that were exploited in antiquity. There are two groups of shafts in the area. The first group encloses secondary copper minerals and is associated with glassy slags containing copper prills. The other group is associated with hematite that was extracted and transferred to a smelting station to the west …
