  • Which aspects of education are health protective? a life course examination of early education and adulthood cardiometabolic health in the 30-year study of early child care and Youth Development (Secc…

    Open Access•Maria E Bleil, Glenn I Roisman et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Findings point to the potential significance of early student social competence as a link to long-term health, possibly via the acquisition of resources needed for the maintenance of health, as well as through engagement in health behaviors supporting healthy eating. However, more research is needed to replicate these findings and to elaborate on the role of early student social competence and the pathways explaining its effects on cardiometaboli…

  • Behavior Change Among HIV-Negative Men Who Have Sex with Men Not Using PrEP in the United States

    Open Access•Steven M Goodreau, Michael P Barry et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2024

  • Changes in Sexual Behaviors with Opposite-Sex Partners and Sexually Transmitted Infection Outcomes Among Females and Males Ages 15–44 Years in the USA

    Open Access•David A Katz, Casey E Copen et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Sexual Behavior•2023

Rates of reported gonorrhea and chlamydial infections have increased substantially over the past decade in the USA and disparities persist across age and race/ethnicity. We aimed to understand potential changes in sexual behaviors, sexual network attributes, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening that may be contributing to these trends. We analyzed data from 29,423 female and 24,605 male respondents ages 15–44 years from the National…

  • Achieving the “Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S.” incidence reduction goals among at-risk populations in the South

    Open Access•Deven T Hamilton, Karen W Hoover et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Our analysis indicates that it is possible to reach EHE goals. The largest reductions in HIV incidence can be achieved by increasing ART coverage among MSM and all race groups benefit regardless of differences in ART initiation by race. Improving ART coverage to > 90% should be prioritized with a particular emphasis on reaching NHB MSM. Such a focus will reduce the largest number of incident cases, reduce racial HIV incidence disparities among bo…

  • Sweetened beverage taxes

    Open Access•Jessica C Jones-Smith, Melissa Knox et al.•ARTICLE•Food Policy•2022•Citada por: 1

Taxing sweetened beverages has emerged as an important and effective policy for addressing their overconsumption. However, taxes may place a greater economic burden on people with lower incomes. We assess the degree to which sweetened beverage taxes in three large US cities placed an inequitable burden on populations with lower incomes by assessing spending on beverage taxes by income after taxes have been implemented, as well as any net transfer…

  • Potential Impact of HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis Among Black and White Adolescent Sexual Minority Males

Deven T Hamilton, Steven M Goodreau et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2018•Referências: 26

Objectives. To assess the potential impact of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) on the HIV epidemic among Black and White adolescent sexual minority males (ASMM). Methods. We used a network model and race-specific data from recent trials to simulate HIV transmission among a population of Black and White 13- to 18-year-old ASMM over 20 years. We estimated the number of infections prevented (impact) and the number needed to treat to prevent an infecti…

  • Identification of Key Beliefs Explaining Male Circumcision Motivation Among Adolescent Boys in Zimbabwe

  • Evidence-Based Identification of Key Beliefs Explaining Adult Male Circumcision Motivation in Zimbabwe

Open Access•Daniel E Montano, Danuta Kasprzyk et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2014

Male circumcision (MC) reduces HIV acquisition among men, leading WHO/UNAIDS to recommend a goal to circumcise 80 % of men in high HIV prevalence countries. Significant investment to increase MC capacity in priority countries was made, yet only 5 % of the goal has been achieved in Zimbabwe. The integrated behavioral model (IBM) was used as a framework to investigate the factors affecting MC motivation among men in Zimbabwe. A survey instrument wa…

  • Concurrent Partnerships and HIV Prevalence Disparities by Race

M Morris, Ann Kurth et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2009•Citada por: 32•Referências: 30

Concurrent sexual partnerships may help to explain the disproportionately high prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections among African Americans. The persistence of such disparities would also require strong assortative mixing by race. We examined descriptive evidence from 4 nationally representative US surveys and found consistent support for both elements of this hypothesis. Using a data-driven network simulation model, we fou…
