Catalysing change in health and medical research policy
Revising public health policy based on new data does not happen automatically. This is acutely relevant to the now undeniable evidence that many diseases develop differently between the sexes and may also be affected by gender. Current health and medical practices across the globe generally fail to cater for sex and gender effects in common diseases. Inadequate policy frameworks to guide the comprehensive inclusion of sex and gender in research j…
Should clinicians make chest surgery available to transgender male adolescents
Bioethicists are increasingly engaged in considering the ethical issues associated with the care of transgender people. Some of these young people are distressed by …
Gender Variance in Children and Adolescents with Neurodevelopmental and Psychiatric Conditions from Australia
Identity, well-being and autonomy in ongoing puberty suppression for non-binary adults

We argue that (1) the aim of OPS is consistent with the proper goals of medicine to promote well-being, and therefore could ethically be offered to non-binary adults in principle; (2) there are additional equity-b…

Non-Binary and Binary Gender Identity in Australian Trans and Gender Diverse Individuals
Gender variance in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder from the National Database for Autism Research
Previous studies suggest elevated rates of gender variance (GV), the wish to be of the other gender, in those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study aimed to understand the rate of GV in children and adolescents with ASD and explore differences in sex, age, and emotional-behavioral problems relative to those referred to clinical services for mental health concerns (“referred”) and to the general population (“non-referred”). A secondary a…
