  • The Falling Carbon Footprint of Acquisitive and Violent Offences

    Open Access•Helen Skudder, Ian Brunton-Smith et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Criminology•2018•Referências: 24

Cutting carbon emissions, wherever they occur, is a global priority and those associated with crime are no exception. We show that between 1995 and 2015, the carbon footprint of acquisitive and violent crime has dropped by 62 per cent, a total reduction of 54 million tonnes CO2e throughout this period. Although the environmental harm associated with crime is likely to be considered lower in importance than social or economic impacts, a focus on r…

  • Addressing the Carbon‐Crime Blind Spot

Open Access•Helen Skudder, Angela Druckman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Industrial Ecology•2017

Governments estimate the social and economic impacts of crime, but its environmental impact is largely unacknowledged. Our study addresses this by estimating the carbon footprint of crime in England and Wales and identifies the largest sources of emissions. By applying environmentally extended input‐output analysis–derived carbon emission factors to the monetized costs of crime, we estimate that crime committed in 2011 in England and Wales gave r…

Respondents also comment on the role of their local churches. Issues are identified where fur…

John Cole•BOOK•Between the Queen and the Cabby•2011

Students of the French Revolution and of women's right are generally familiar with Olympe de Gouges's bold adaptation of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. However, her Rights of Woman has usually been extracted from its literary context and studied without proper attention to the political consequences of 1791. In Between the Queen and the Cabby , John Cole provides the first full translation of de Gouges's Rights of Woman …

  • The Hidden FrontierEcology and Ethnicity in an Alpine Valley

John W Cole, John Cole et al.•BOOK•The hidden frontier•1999

"This study of ethnicity, identity, and nation-building has a new introduction (on which Eric Wolf collaborated near the end of his life) that shows the continuing validity of the book's innovative approach to ethnography, ecology, culture, and politics. The authors investigated two Alpine villages - the German-speaking community of St. Felix and Romance-speaking Tret - only a mile apart in the same mountain valley."--Jacket.
