The ethics of Orthodoxy as the aesthetics of the local church
This paper addresses the ritual aesthetics of mundane aspects within the global Eastern Orthodox Christian liturgical practice. By comparing a variety of ‘local practices’ within the liturgical traditions of various Orthodox Christian communities, the paper explores how commonly held ethical commitments are expressed in radically different – and at times exactly opposite – practices of quotidian religion. Theology as an Ethnographic Object
This paper draws upon over three years' research among Eastern Orthodox (principally Antiochian and Greek) communities in London and Mount Athos, Greece. This research came to engage theology quite heavily as part of the ethnographic facts of the fieldsites. This paper reviews some of the existing ways that theology (as both discipline and practice) relate to ethnographic enquiry, particularly as it has arisen in the dialogue with the Anthropolog…

The perspective adopted may be global or local, concerned with the past or the present, or the mediation between the two. Defined in this manner, the potential range of contemporary disciplines involved in some way or other in studying material culture is effectively as wide as the human and cultural sciences themselves. Generating Quitline calls during Australia’s National Tobacco Campaign
Tobacco control campaign planners can increase the number of calls to telephone quitlines by assessing the efficiency of particular advertisements to generate such calls. Pairing of health effect and quitline modelling advertisements can increase efficiency in generating calls. Placement of advertisements in lower involvement programme types may increase efficiency in generating Quitline calls

Smoking is the single greatest preventable cause of premature death and disease in Australia.1 In 1998 approximately 19 000 deaths in Australia were attributable to the use of tobacco.2 Almost 10% of the total burden of disease in Australia in 1996 was estimated to be attributable to tobacco smoking.3 After consistent declines in the prevalence of smoking from around 60% of men and 30% of women in the early 1960s,4 this reduction appeared to stal…
