A response to "The relevance of Sigmund Freud for the 21st century."
A response to Richard Lettieri's "The ego revisited."
Thoughts on Ahmed Fayek's article
Freud’s first formulation about the structure of the mind was a tripartite theory of awareness— conscious, preconscious and unconscious—referred to as “the system unconscious.” Fayek (2005) addresses the fate of this construct, pointing out that it is no longer used as Freud construed it. Fayek gives reasons for this eventuality: assertions I question. I offer an alternative explanation

Psychotherapy as a Method of Science
A measure, tool, or method is not adjudged scientific on the basis of the results it produces, but, rather, on the rationale for its use. Nonetheless, in the eyes of many, this has not been true regarding psychotherapy. There is a growing body of literature dealing with the experimental evaluation of the process and efficacy of psychotherapy, such as may be found in the recent monograph published by the A.P.A. ( 1757), and in such review articles…

Treatment needs of children in foster care
This study explores the psychosocial problems and treatment needs of a sample of 50 children who remained in foster care for a period of five years. An attempt was made to rate the quality of treatment received in relation to judgments of treatment needed. The results raise questions about the appropriateness and adequacy of foster care and residential placement for this vulnerable group of children
The Boulder Model Revisited
The participants at the 1949 Boulder Conference on training espoused noble goals, amongst them being that clinicians should be contributors to the science of psychology as well. The error they made was to think that all students in clinical psychology should be or even could be interested in learning how to do research. Participants of the 1965 Chicago Conference on training recommended revising the Boulder philosophy; viz., not every student in …
The Boulder Model Revisited
If we can differentiate the Boulder philosophy (that is, the intent of the participants at the 1949 Boulder Conference on training in clinical psychology) from the Boulder-model program (that is, the actual program of education which materialized), we would have to agree with Raimy who in 1984 suggests that the Boulder program (that is, the program the participants at the Boulder Conference hoped would materialize) has never been actualized. The …
Clinical Psychology in a New Context
Applied psychology began by melding 19th Century psychology (that is, the laboratory study of sensation and perception) and the needs of the community for assistance in the assessment of children. Thus, general psychology within a developmental context constituted the ground out of which clinical work was developed. Participation by psychologists in two world wars rendering service to military personnel pulled applied psychologists into work with…
