  • Longitudinal bidirectional link between socioeconomic position and health

Michal Benderly, Ronen Fluss et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2023•Referências: 31

BACKGROUND: Health inequities can stem from socioeconomic position (SEP) leading to poor health (social causation) or poor health resulting in lower SEP (health selection). We aimed to examine the longitudinal bidirectional SEP-health associations and identify inequity risk factors. METHODS: Longitudinal Household Israeli Panel survey participants (waves 1-4), age ≥25 years, were included (N=11 461; median follow-up=3 years). Health rated on a 4-…

  • Addressing Current Criticism Regarding the Value of Self-Report Dietary Data

    Open Access•Amy F Subar, Laurence S Freedman et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Nutrition•2015

  • Validating an FFQ for intake of episodically consumed foods

Open Access•Douglas Midthune, Arthur Schatzkin et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2011

Objective To develop a method to validate an FFQ for reported intake of episodically consumed foods when the reference instrument measures short-term intake, and to apply the method in a large prospective cohort. Design The FFQ was evaluated in a sub-study of cohort participants who, in addition to the questionnaire, were asked to complete two non-consecutive 24 h dietary recalls (24HR). FFQ-reported intakes of twenty-nine food groups were analys…

  • Performance of a food-frequency questionnaire in the US NIH–Aarp (National Institutes of Health–American Association of Retired Persons) Diet and Health Study

Open Access•Frances E Thompson, Victor Kipnis et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2008

Objective We evaluated the performance of the food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ) administered to participants in the US NIH–AARP (National Institutes of Health–American Association of Retired Persons) Diet and Health Study, a cohort of 566 404 persons living in the USA and aged 50–71 years at baseline in 1995. Design The 124-item FFQ was evaluated within a measurement error model using two non-consecutive 24-hour dietary recalls (24HRs) as the re…

  • A New Statistical Method for Estimating the Usual Intake of Episodically Consumed Foods with Application to Their Distribution

  • Bias in dietary-report instruments and its implications for nutritional epidemiology

Open Access•Victor Kipnis, Douglas Midthune et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2002

Objective: To evaluate measurement error structure in dietary assessment instruments and to investigate its implications for nutritional studies, using urinary nitrogen excretion as a reference biomarker for protein intake. Design: The dietary assessment methods included different food-frequency questionnaires (FFQs) and such conventional dietary-report reference instruments as a series of 24-hour recalls, 4-day weighed food records or 7-day diar…

  • The use of a Kolmogorov--Smirnov type statistic in testing hypotheses about seasonal variation

    Laurence S Freedman•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1979•Citada por: 6•Referências: 14

This paper presents a non-parametric method for testing departures from a uniform seasonal variation in incidence of disease. The method may be used either with exact dates of incidence when they are available or with monthly totals. It is equally valid for sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal departures from uniformity. A simulation study shows it to be much more powerful than other non-parametric alternatives and nearly as powerful as Edwards's test i…
