Sympathomimetic drug use or abuse in a thyrotoxic individual can be clinically devastating as a result of enhanced cellular sensitivity to adrenergic stimulation. Thus, it is critical to recognize thyrotoxicosis in a patient with coexistent sympathomimetic drug abuse.
