The Caerphilly and Speedwell studies are based on representative samples of over 3000 subjects in South Wales and over 2000 in Bristol. They include cross sectional studies of risk factors for prevalent ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and of determinants of those risk factors. On April 16, 1979, Massachusetts raised its legal drinking age from 18 to 20 years. Massachusetts was compared with New York State, exclusive of New York City and Nassau County. New York State retained an 18-year-old drinking age. Diet and Serum Protein Levels of Urban Zulu Adults
The serum protein pattern of Africans is usually found to differ from that of Europeans, being characterized by lower albumin levels and higher total globulin levels. There is evidence that this may be due to a number of possibly interrelated factors, viz. parasitism, malnutrition, liver disease, and, to a limited extent, genetic considerations.
