Attributions of responsibility for children's mental health problems
Surveys of 102 mothers of inner-city youths with mental health problems and their clinicians examined discrepancies in mothers' and professionals' causal and solution attributions for the children's problems. Greater causal responsibility was attributed to mothers by professionals than by mothers, while they agreed on the children's responsibility. Factors associated with inpatient length of stay for children and adolescents with serious mental illness
This study describes the distribution and length of stay (LOS) for children and adolescents in inpatient psychiatric facilities and identifies factors associated with LOS. The data are from the 1986 Client/Patient Sample Survey, a nationally representative survey conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health. The median national LOS, weighted to population levels, is more than two months for children compared with approximately two and one…
