Im Zuge des Erstarkens autoritärer Bewegungen in verschiedenen Teilen der Welt sehen sich Verfassungsgerichte Angriffen auf ihre Unabhängigkeit ausgesetzt. Doch die Verfassungsgerichtsbarkeit steht dem nicht schutzlos gegenüber: Neben der »Außensicherung« der Verfassungsgerichtsbarkeit (etwa durch gesetzgeberische Initiativen) ist hierbei insbesondere die Selbstbehauptung durch die Verfassungsgerichtsbarkeit von zentraler Bedeutung.
