  • Gender-specific aspects of socialisation and risk of cardiovascular disease among community-dwelling older adults

Achamyeleh Birhanu Teshale, Htet Lin Htun et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2024•Citada por: 1•Referências: 35

BACKGROUND: Gender influences cardiovascular disease (CVD) through norms, social relations, roles and behaviours. This study identified gender-specific aspects of socialisation associated with CVD. METHODS: A longitudinal study was conducted, involving 9936 (5,231 women and 4705 men) initially healthy, community-dwelling Australians aged 70 years or more from the ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) study and ASPREE Longitudinal Stu…

  • Development of the Covid-19 Real-Time Information System for Preparedness and Epidemic Response (CRISPER), Australia

Open Access•Emma Field, Amalie Dyda et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Accurate and current information has been highlighted across the globe as a critical requirement for the COVID-19 pandemic response. To address this need, many interactive dashboards providing a range of different information about COVID-19 have been developed. A similar tool in Australia containing current information about COVID-19 could assist general practitioners and public health responders in their pandemic response efforts. The COVID-19 R…

  • Improving access to primary health care

Open Access•Catherine Spooner, Virginia Lewis et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2021

All the interventions were a low-cost incremental attempt to address unmet health care needs of vulnerable populations. Change is possible; sustaining change may be more challenging. Access to PHC requires attention to both patient abilities and provider characteristics. The logic model proved to be a valuable heuristic tool for defining the objectives of the interventions, evaluating their impacts, and learning from the comparison of 'cases

  • Health-related quality of life and all-cause mortality among older healthy individuals in Australia and the United States

  • Does healthcare inequity reflect variations in peoples’ abilities to access healthcare? Results from a multi-jurisdictional interventional study in two high-income countries

Open Access•Jeannie Haggerty, Jean‐Frédéric Lévesque et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2020

We showed that those at higher risk of social vulnerability are more likely to report problematic access and also have low scores on ability to seek, reach, pay, and engage with healthcare. Equity-oriented healthcare interventions should pay particular attention to enhancing people's abilities to access care in addition to modifying organizational processes and structures that reinforce social systems of discrimination or exclusion

  • Bullying and sexual abuse and their association with harmful behaviours, antidepressant use and health-related quality of life in adulthood

Open Access•David Alejandro González‐chica, Julio Licinio et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

The use of self-labelling questions to investigate sensitive areas such as bullying and sexual abuse in a survey is feasible. Such questions provided estimates that are consistent with findings from studies using more detailed instruments. Bullying and sexual abuse have an additive adverse association with various outcomes. Identifying survivors of both forms of abuse is important to avoid more serious consequences

  • Predictors of weight stigma experienced by middle-older aged, general-practice patients with obesity in disadvantaged areas of Australia

Open Access•Catherine Spooner, Upali W Jayasinghe et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

Urinary Incontinence has been associated with psychological effects such as depression. We aimed in this study to explore the subjective experience of the burden of urinary incontinence, in relation to mental health, in order to explain how these conditions interact. A qualitative study was undertaken using the Framework Approach to analyse in-depth interviews with nineteen women regarding their experiences with psychosocial outcomes for those wi…

  • A telephone-supported cardiovascular lifestyle programme (CLIP) for lipid reduction and weight loss in general practice patients

Open Access•Keren Louise Stuart, Keren Stuart et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2014

Objective To evaluate a primary prevention care model using telephone support delivered through an existing health call centre to general practitioner-referred patients at risk of developing CVD, using objective measures of CVD risk reduction and weight loss. Design Participants were randomised into two groups: (i) those receiving a telephone-supported comprehensive lifestyle intervention programme (CLIP: written structured diet and exercise advi…

  • Is integration an add-on or a new way of working for health professionals in co-located medical practices

Open Access•Kathryn Powell, Nigel Stocks et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

Characteristically health services within the community are not separated based on illness/condition but rather on profession for example, GP services, physiotherapy clinics. In the primary health sector government policy at federal and state levels has established integrated health services. Functional and operationalised integration does not spontaneously arise from colocating health professionals. Despite primary health reforms there is no pre…

Background: Chronic diseases are major causes of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. Their effects can be mitigated by high quality evidence‐based care, but this is not the norm in most systems. The Chronic Care Model (CCM) is an evidence‐based policy response to this practice gap, which uses multiple strategies to promote the quality of chronic care. Objective: To review CCM with an ethical lens. Methods: We reviewed the published em…
