  • Dynamics of Celtic fields—A geoarchaeological investigation of Øster Lem Hede, Western Jutland, Denmark

    Open Access•Nina Helt Nielsen, Kristian Dalsgaard•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2017•Citada por: 14•Referências: 12

Celtic fields are the most widespread type of prehistoric field systems in northwestern Europe. Many questions remain regarding their formation and use, but these may potentially be answered through geoarchaeological investigations. The aim of this study is to contribute to the understanding of the formation of the field systems, the formation of the banks and lynchets demarcating the fields, and the prehistoric land use through geoarchaeological…

  • Dating of Prehistoric Burial Mounds by 14 C Analysis of Soil Organic Matter Fractions

    Open Access•Søren M Kristiansen, Kristian Dalsgaard et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2003•Citada por: 10•Referências: 15

Dating of prehistoric anthropogenic earthworks requires either excavation for archaeological artifacts or macroscopic organic matter suitable for 14 C analysis. Yet, the former, in many cases, is undesirable and the latter is difficult to obtain. Here we present a soil science procedure, which has the potential to overcome these problems. It includes careful sampling of buried former soil surfaces, acid-alkali-acid fractionation of soil organic m…

  • Dating sequences of buried horizons of podzols developed in wind-blown sand at Ulfborg, Western Jutland

    Open Access•Kristian Dalsgaard, Bent Vad Odgaard•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2001

  • Soil evolution in the remnants of natural forest vegetation

    Søren Munch Kristiansen, Kristian Dalsgaard•ARTICLE•Geografisk Tidsskrift-Danish…•2000•Citada por: 3•Referências: 10

A mixed Quercus-Tilia forest was investigated to study the soil development in a forest that resembled the natural Danish forest composition before 4000 BC. This study of the impact of vegetation upon soils, provides morphological and chemical data to support the findings. Soil survey and laboratory data showed that the soils are podzolized in the western and southern borders of the forest. This podzolization process is mainly facilitated by a di…
