  • Fossil CO 2 emissions from warehouse and distribution centers in Southern California’s Inland Empire

    Open Access•Ian Bachant, Ian J N Bachant et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2026

The rise of e-commerce has led to a rapid expansion of warehouses and distribution centers (W&DCs). However, impacts of e-commerce logistics, including emissions of fossil fuel-derived carbon dioxide (ffCO 2 ) on urban greenhouse gas inventories, remain poorly quantified. Here, we developed a 40 year tree-ring radiocarbon ( 14 C) record to isolate ffCO 2 enhancements within a W&DC cluster and in the urban background of Southern California’s Inlan…

  • Looking at the Wood, Seeing the Trees and More

Gretel Boswijk, Luitgard Schwendenmann et al.•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2025

The Australia-New Zealand Tree-Ring Conference was held January 21–23, 2025, at Waipapa Taumata Rau/University of Auckland, in Aotearoa/New Zealand. It was intended to provide an opportunity for the Australian and New Zealand dendrochronological researchers to meet, present current research, and discuss the challenges and opportunities in working with Southern Hemisphere tree species, but it was open to others outside of Australasia, including so…

  • The Accuracy and Precision of Small-Sized Modern Wood Samples Analyzed at the Chronos 14 Carbon-Cycle Facility

    Open Access•Heather A Haines, William T Hiscock et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2023•Referências: 17

Tree-ring series offer considerable potential for the development of environment-sensitive proxy records. However, with traditional increment cores, only small amounts of wood are often available from annual tree-ring sequences. For this reason, it is important to understand the reliability (and reproducibility) of radiocarbon measurements obtained from small-sized samples. Here we report the F 14 C results from the Chronos 14 Carbon-Cycle Facili…

  • Radiocarbon Protocols and First Intercomparison Results From the Chronos 14 Carbon-Cycle Facility, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia

    Open Access•Chris Turney, Lorena Becerra-Valdivia et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2021•Citada por: 12•Referências: 81

The Chronos 14 Carbon-Cycle Facility is a new radiocarbon laboratory at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Built around an Ionplus 200 kV MIni-CArbon DAting System (MICADAS) Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (AMS) installed in October 2019, the facility was established to address major challenges in the Earth, Environmental and Archaeological sciences. Here we report an overview of the Chronos facility, the pretreatment methods currently e…

  • Unprecedented long-distance transport of macroscopic charcoal from a large, intense forest fire in eastern Australia

    Open Access•Craig Woodward, Heather A Haines•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Referências: 5

Macroscopic charcoal records from wetland sediment cores are used to reconstruct long-term records of fire frequency. A central premise for the use of this tool is that macroscopic charcoal (>125 μm) represents local fires involving local vegetation. Several records reveal that there may often be exceptions to these guidelines. Previous studies have shown that particles larger than 1 cm long can travel at least 20 km from the location of a fire. …
