  • Reconstructions of surface ocean conditions from the northeast Atlantic and Nordic seas during the last millennium

    Open Access•Laura Cunningham, Laura K Cunningham et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2013•Citada por: 4•Referências: 7

We undertake the first comprehensive effort to integrate North Atlantic marine climate records for the last millennium, highlighting some key components common within this system at a range of temporal and spatial scales. In such an approach, careful consideration needs to be given to the complexities inherent to the marine system. Composites therefore need to be hydrographically constrained and sensitive to both surface water mass variability an…

  • Mid- to late-Holocene reservoir-age variability and isotope-based palaeoenvironmental reconstruction in the Limfjord, Denmark

    Open Access•Bente Philippsen, Jesper Olsen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2013•Citada por: 9•Referências: 11

Palaeoenvironmental and 14 C reservoir age variability in the Limfjord, a sound through northern Jutland, Denmark, was investigated for the period 7300 to 1300 cal yr BP. Shells and bulk sediment samples from a core from a former inlet, Kilen, were analysed by radiocarbon dating and stable isotope (C/N) measurements. A strong correlation between the C/N ratios and δ 13 C values verifies that these are good carbon source indicators and thus allow …

  • Diatom evidence of climatic change in Holsteinsborg Dyb, west of Greenland, during the last 1200 years

    Open Access•Longbin Sha, Hui Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2011•Referências: 25

Diatom assemblages from Holsteinsborg Dyb on the West Greenland shelf were analysed with high temporal resolution for the last 1200 years. A high degree of consistency between changes in frequency of selected diatom species and instrumental data from the same area during the last 70 years confirms the reliability of diatoms (particularly sea-ice species and warm-water species) for the study of palaeoceanographic changes in this area. A general co…

  • Holocene climatic development in Skagerrak, eastern North Atlantic

    Open Access•Dorthe Reng Erbs-Hansen, Karen Luise Knudsen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2011•Citada por: 1•Referências: 15

A high-resolution multiproxy study of core MD99-2286 reveals a highly variable hydrographic environment in the Skagerrak from 9300 cal. yr BP to the present. The study includes foraminiferal faunas, stable isotopes and sedimentary parameters, as well as temperature and salinity reconstructions of a c. 29 m long radiocarbon-dated core record. The multivariate technique fuzzy c-means was applied to the foraminiferal counts, and it was extremely val…

  • Twentieth-century warming and hydrographical changes in the Tagus Prodelta, eastern North Atlantic

    Open Access•Helga B Bartels-Jonsdottir, Antje H L Voelker et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2009•Referências: 1

Pluri-annual proxy records of marine sediment cores from the Tagus Prodelta off Lisbon, Portugal, have been generated to gain insight into the climatic and hydrographic changes in the area during the twentieth century. The study includes benthic and planktonic foraminiferal faunas and the stable isotopic composition of one benthic ( Uvigerina celtica) and two planktonic ( Globigerina bulloides and Globorotalia inflata) foraminiferal species. Sea …

  • Very Long-Lived Mollusks Confirm 17th Century AD Tephra-Based Radiocarbon Reservoir Ages for North Icelandic Shelf Waters

    Open Access•Alan D Wanamaker, Jan Heinemeier et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2008•Citada por: 4•Referências: 46

Marine sediment records from the north Icelandic shelf, which rely on tephrochronological age models, reveal an average ΔR (regional deviation from the modeled global surface ocean reservoir age) of approximately 150 yr for the last millennium. These tephra-based age models have not hitherto been independently verified. Here, we provide data that corroborate ΔR values derived from these sediment archives. We sampled the youngest portion (ontogene…

  • National Context and Spouses' Housework in 34 Countries

K Knudsen, Karen Luise Knudsen et al.•ARTICLE•European Sociological Review•2007•Citada por: 69

By focusing on how national context and individual factors affect spouses’ absolute and relative contributions, social scientists are better able to understand couples’ organising and sharing of housework. Previous studies have suggested a linkage between female empowerment and the division of housework; however, documented effects have proven inconsistent. The authors propose that a less pronounced cross-national pattern for relative efforts ref…

  • Late-Holocene summer sea-surface temperatures based on a diatom record from the north Icelandic shelf

    Hui Jiang, Marit-Solveig Seidenkrantz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2002

  • A mid-Holocene shift in Arctic sea-ice variability on the East Greenland Shelf

    Open Access•Anne Jennings, Anne E Jennings et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2002•Citada por: 16•Referências: 6

Records of iceberg-rafting and palaeohydrography from two East Greenland shelf cores (JM96-1206/1-GC and JM96-1207/1-GC) are reported. Benthic foraminifera, stable isotopes and IRD fluxes indicate a shift toward colder, lower-salinity ‘polar’ conditions c. 5 cal. ka. A new proxy of iceberg-rafting on the East Greenland Shelf is the flux of calcium carbonate (TIC) thought to be derived from glacial erosion of Cretaceous calcareous mudstones. A cha…

  • Eemian Climatic and Hydrographical Instability on a Marine Shelf in Northern Denmark

    Open Access•Marit-Solveig Seidenkrantz, Karen Luise Knudsen•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1997

Benthic foraminifera and stable isotope data from the last interglaciation (Eemian, substage 5e) from a borehole at Skagen, Denmark, provide evidence for major environmental and hydrographic changes during this period. During the first millennium of the Eemian, water masses covering northern Denmark became gradually warmer. Temperate conditions prevailed during most of the interglaciation, but these were interrupted by two periods with decreased …

  • A palaeoclimatic and palaeoceanographic record of the last 11 000 14C years from the Skagerrak-Kattegat, northeastern Atlantic margin

    Open Access•Hui Jiang, Svante Björck et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1997•Citada por: 2•Referências: 6

Marine sediments of about 116 m drilled onshore at Skagen near the northernmost tip of Jutland, Denmark, provides a continuous and detailed palaeoceanographic and palaeoenvironmental record of the last 11 000 14 C years in the Skagerrak-Kattegat. The whole Younger Dryas was characterized by an arctic-subarctic environment where the North Jutland Current flows today, instead of being succeeded by a minor climate warming at about 10 600 BP as recor…

  • Do Greenland Ice Cores Reflect NW European Interglacial Climate Variations?

Open Access•Eiliv Larsen, Hans Petter Sejrup et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1995

The climatic evolution during the Eemian and the Holocene in western Europe is compared with the sea-surface conditions in the Norwegian Sea and with the oxygen-isotope-derived paleotemperature signal in the GRIP and Renland ice cores from Greenland. The records show a warm phase (ca. 3000 yr long) early in the Eemian (substage 5e). This suggests that the Greenland ice sheet, in general, recorded the climate in the region during this time. Rapid …
