  • Archaeobotanical data from a Baran settlement (4,300–3,400 yrs bp) in the Ghaggar basin (northwestern India) reveals continuity of the Indus crop package after the Meghalayan stage drought

Open Access•Mansi Swaroop, Amish Kumar et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2026

  • Insights on agriculture intensification, trade and localised adaptation based on radiocarbon-dated carbonised seeds from the Iron Age to the Early Medieval Period at Uren, Bihar, Eastern India

Open Access•Ruchita Yadav, Alka Srivastava et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026

  • Evaluating the Indian Summer Monsoon intensity using archeological seeds from early–late historic Vidarbha, Central India

    Open Access•Himani Patel, Ruchita Yadav et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2026•Referências: 78

We present an archaeobotanical record representing ~2300 years BP farming practice at Nagardhan an Early Historic—Late Medieval site in the Vidarbha region, Maharashtra, central India. The study assesses the crop harvesting patterns and Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) intensity using two different approaches (archaeobotany, and canonical correspondence analysis) to understand the variability and impact of ISM on human subsistence systems during perio…

  • Variable monsoons and human adaptations

    Open Access•Anil K Pokharia, Jeewan Singh Kharakwal et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Citada por: 3•Referências: 8

We present the first systematic evaluation of the relationship between the archaeological and palaeoclimatic record from north-western India during the past millennium, from the urban site of Chandravati. The rarity of Medieval sites, systematic excavations and multi-disciplinary work in the subcontinent obscure the impact of two distinct climate anomalies − the ‘Medieval Warm Period’ (‘MWP’, 740 − 1150 CE), followed by the ‘Little Ice Age’ (‘LIA…

  • Neolithic−Early historic (2500–200 BC) plant use

    Open Access•Anil K Pokharia, Shalini Sharma et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2017

  • Early Neolithic agriculture (2700–2000 bc) and Kushan period developments (ad 100–300)

    Open Access•Anil K Pokharia, Buddha Rashmi Mani et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2017•Citada por: 8•Referências: 12

  • Archaeobotanical evidence of millets in the Indian subcontinent with some observations on their role in the Indus civilization

Open Access•Anil K Pokharia, Jeewan Singh Kharakwal et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2013•Citada por: 29•Referências: 17

  • Possible Evidence of Pre-Columbian Transoceanic Voyages Based on Conventional LSC and AMS 14 C Dating of Associated Charcoal and a Carbonized Seed of Custard Apple ( Annona squamosa L.)

    Open Access•Anil Kumar Pokharia, B Sekar et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2009•Citada por: 1•Referências: 2

An attempt was made to trace the antiquity of custard apple in India on the basis of accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and liquid scintillation counting (LSC) radiocarbon dates. Recently, seed remains of custard apple ( Annona squamosa L.) in association with wood charcoals were encountered from the Neolithic archaeological site of Tokwa at the confluence of the Belan and Adwa rivers, Mirzapur District, in the Vidhyan Plateau region of north-ce…

  • Women's Self Help Groups

    Open Access•Alka Srivastava•ARTICLE•Social Change•2005•Referências: 1

Data collected from a micro sample of women members of SHGs (Self Help Groups) in four Indian States-Bihar, Chattisgarh, M.P. and U.P., shows that through micro-finance based entrepreneurship, these women have been able to contribute to household finances, which led to some (though limited) decision making role for them in the household. While there is a need to study the issue in a longer time frame, overall, we see that the picture is not devoi…
