Impartiality and relative utilitarianism
A novel axiomatization of relative utilitarianism is provided using the single-profile setting used in Harsanyi’s Social Aggregation Theorem. Harsanyi’s axioms are supplemented with an impartiality axiom that requires social alternative lotteries p and q to be socially indifferent when (i) two individuals have conflicting preferences for them and everybody else is indifferent and (ii) the concerned individuals’ strengths of preference for p over …
Ambiguity aversion, risk aversion, and the weight of evidence
David Schmeidler’s contributions to decision theory
Incomplete risk attitudes and random choice behavior
Weighted utility theory with incomplete preferences
Probabilistically Sophisticated Choice
Cet article propose une nouvelle axiomatisation du modèle de choix « probabilistically sophisticated » à la Machina-Schmeidler [1995]
Continuity, completeness, betweenness and cone-monotonicity
Expected multi-utility representations
Continuity, completeness and the definition of weak preferences
CHAPTER 9 State‐Dependent Utility
This chapter reviews the foundational issues raised when the evaluation of consequences is state‐dependent and discusses the various approaches to addressing them. In addition, exposes the theory of risk aversion in the presence of state‐dependent preferences and applies it to the analysis of optimal choice of disability insurance.

Endogenous Adverse Selection and Unemployment Insurance
In this paper we consider how the presence of private information may explain the failure of the private sector to provide unemployment insurance. In particular, we show how the interaction of private information regarding employees' preferences for work with the unobservable level of effort exerted on the job may explain the absence of private unemployment insurance. We also reflect on the implications of our findings for the role of the public …
Social Attributes and Strategic Equilibrium
Using a game-theoretic approach, the authors examine possible equilibrium explanations of the often-observed phenomenon that two neighboring restaurants offering similar menus nevertheless experience vastly different demands. The essential aspect of this analysis is the presence of a consumption externality that makes the popularity itself a factor in the determination of the relative attractiveness of the restaurants. On Optimal Wage Indexation
The observed practice of contracting for labor services in advance introduces stickiness or friction into the economic system. In the presence of monetary and real stochastic disturbances the stability of the levels of employment and output hinges on the nature of the wage contracts. In this paper we demonstrate the existence of optimal indexation schemes that are capable of eliminating the aforementioned friction by duplicating the equilibrium t…

On the Specification of Asset Equilibrium in Macroeconomic Models
This paper describes two alternative institutional setups for trading in assets and goods. One setup corresponds to a "beginning-of-period:" asset equilibrium specification; the other suggests both beginning and end-of-period equilibrium. It is shown that: (a) each model is internally consistent and the two models are consistent with each another; (b) the two models abide by Walra's law and in neither of them is there a need for a separate "balan…
On the Private Production of Public Goods
The main concern of the present study is the investigation of some welfare aspects of private provision of exclusive public goods which were neglected in the existing literature dealing with this subject. In particular, we demonstrate that the particular attributes of a public which make it possible for all [to] enjoy in common in the sense that each individual's consumption of such leads to no subtraction from any other individual's consumption …
