Soils of Urban and Human‐Impacted Landscapes
Anthropogenic soils (referred to here as anthrosoils) are soils that have been influenced, modified, or created by human activity. They are found worldwide in urban and other human‐impacted landscapes. Soils of urban and human‐impacted landscapes (Anthrosols) differ from soils normally found in natural settings in that they have been modified so profoundly by human activity that they have characteristics outside the range of native soil series and require reclassification as a different type of soil. Proposal to add anthrostratigraphic and technostratigraphic units to the stratigraphic code for classification of anthropogenic Holocene deposits
Anthropogenic surficial deposits are formed from Holocene and older deposits that have been so modified by human activity that their original form is unrecognizable. Because their characteristics are fundamentally different from those of natural origin, the creation of special stratigraphic categories seems justified. Alluvial Soil Chronosequence in the Inner Coastal Plain, Central Virginia
A chronological sequence of soils formed on a series of alluvial depositional surfaces ranging in age from late-middle Miocene to late Pleistocene was characterized to clarify soil-geomorphic relations and provide a basis for allostratigraphic subdivision of the inner Coastal Plain.
