Risk Management of Covid-19 by Universities in China
The rapid spread of new coronaviruses throughout China and the world in 2019–2020 has had a great impact on China’s economic and social development. As the backbone of Chinese society, Chinese universities have made significant contributions to emergency risk management. Such contributions have been made primarily in the following areas: alumni resource collection, medical rescue and emergency management, mental health maintenance, control of sta…
Alternative Global Health Security Indexes for Risk Analysis of Covid-19
Given the volume of research and discussion on the health, medical, economic, financial, political, and travel advisory aspects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease, it is essential to enquire if an outbreak of the epidemic might have been anticipated, given the well-documented history of SARS and MERS, among other infectious diseases. If various issues directly related to health security risks could have been predicted accura…
Modelling Economic Growth, Carbon Emissions, and Fossil Fuel Consumption in China
Most authors apply the Granger causality-VECM (vector error correction model), and Toda-Yamamoto procedures to investigate the relationships among fossil fuel consumption, CO 2 emissions, and economic growth, though they ignore the group joint effects and nonlinear behaviour among the variables. In order to circumvent the limitations and bridge the gap in the literature, this paper combines cointegration and linear and nonlinear Granger causality…

Economics of Sustainable Tourism
Tourism is one of the world's largest industries and one of its fastest growing economic sectors helping to generate income and employment for local people. At the same time, it has many negative outsourced effects on the environment and local culture. Achieving a more sustainable pattern of tourism development is high on the global agenda aiming to meet human needs while preserving the environment now and for the future. The Economics of Sustain…

Analysing Seasonal Changes in New Zealand's Largest Inbound Market
The purpose of the paper is to analyse seasonal changes in tourism demand by New Zealand's major tourist source market, Australia, for the period 1979–2005. A time series regression model is used to test the significance of monthly seasonality. By examining sub-periods that are based on major exogenous events which have had significant impacts on international travel demand to New Zealand, seasonal distributions and intra-year seasonal variations…
Modelling the uncertainty in monthly international tourist arrivals to the Maldives
Modelling international tourism and country risk spillovers for Cyprus and Malta
Modelling multivariate international tourism demand and volatility
Time series forecasts of international travel demand for Australia
Consumption, liquidity constraints, uncertainty and temptation
Forecasting tourist arrivals
Monthly seasonal variations

Simplicity, Scientific Inference and Econometric Modelling
Two issues are discussed in this paper. The first is whether a formal definition and justification of simplicity (parsimony) in scientific inference can be found, and whether an optimal level of simplicity is obtainable. A definition of simplicity is possible, as are the optimum conditions for the desired degree of simplicity. The model of inference used here relates Bayesian inference to algorithmic information theory. Simplicity is examined in …

Keynesian and New Classical Models of Unemployment Revisited
Several Keynesian and New Classical models of unemployment for the United States are reevaluated. The models are examined for adequacy by testing the cross-equation restrictions (where appropriate) and using diagnostic and nonnested tests that explicitly recognize the problem introduced by generated regressors. The best New Classical model for the 1946-73 period is found to be adequate when it is estimated over the 1946-85 period, whereas the Key…
A Monte Carlo Study of Some Tests of Model Adequacy in Time Series Analysis
In this article, we conduct a Monte Carlo experiment of several computationally attractive tests of model adequacy in time series analysis. The experiment is designed to examine the small-sample properties of tests of fitted autoregressive and moving average models, to compare the performances of asymptotically equivalent procedures, to consider the effects on estimated significance levels and powers of testing against both appropriate and inappr…
How Fragile are Fragile Inferences? A Re-Evaluation of the Deterrent Effect of Capital Punishment
Extreme bounds analysis attempts to measure the effects of the uncertainty in the specification of the explanatory variables in a regression model on the estimated coefficients of interest. Standard errors for the stochastic extreme bounds are computed using the bootstrap technique. State-by-state cross section data are used to study the deterrent effect of capital punishment in the United States in 1950. The bootstrap standard errors are suffici…
