  • Estimation of Dynamic Models with Error Components

    T W Anderson, Cheng Hsiao•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1981

Observations on N cross-section units at T time points are used to estimate a simple statistical model involving an autoregressive process with an additive term specific to the unit. Different assumptions about the initial conditions are (a) initial state fixed, (b) initial state random, (c) the unobserved individual effect independent of the unobserved dynamic process with the initial value fixed, and (d) the unobserved individual effect indepen…

  • Stratigraphy, Paleontology, and Age of Lake Algonquin Sediments in Southwestern Ontario, Canada

    Open Access•P F Karrow, T W Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1975

Molluscs, ostracodes, diatoms, pollen, plant macrofossils, peat, and wood have been found in glacial Lake Algonquin sediments, and estuarine-alluvial sediments of the same age, in southern Ontario. Molluscs and ostracodes are particularly abundant and widespread. Pollen analysis of Lake Algonquin sediments, bogs on the Algonquin terrace, and upland bogs above the Algonquin terrace, indicate that Lake Algonquin was still in existence at the time o…

  • Statistical Inference about Markov Chains

    Open Access•T W Anderson, Leo A Goodman•ARTICLE•The Annals of Mathematical…•1957

Maximum likelihood estimates and their asymptotic distribution are obtained for the transition probabilities in a Markov chain of arbitrary order when there are repeated observations of the chain. Likelihood ratio tests and $\chi^2$-tests of the form used in contingency tables are obtained for testing the following hypotheses: (a) that the transition probabilities of a first order chain are constant, (b) that in case the transition probabilities …

  • Estimation of the Parameters of a Single Equation in a Complete System of Stochastic Equations

    Open Access•T W Anderson, Herman Rubin•ARTICLE•The Annals of Mathematical…•1949

A method is given for estimating the coefficients of a single equation in a complete system of linear stochastic equations (see expression (2.1)), provided that a number of the coefficients of the selected equation are known to be zero. Under the assumption of the knowledge of all variables in the system and the assumption that the disturbances in the equations of the system are normally distributed, point estimates are derived from the regressio…
