Beyond event valence in mental time travel? The influence of contemplating alternative outcomes on phenomenological characteristics
Multiple possibilities can be constructed in mental time travel into the past or future. This study examined how considering alternative outcomes (“be better/worse”) influences the phenomenological characteristics of remembering and imagining, assessed through participant ratings and content analysis. College students (N = 136) reported positive and negative personal events and possible future events. Prior to reporting their selected events, par…
Attachment and Cultural Practices Among First- and Second-Generation Asian Indian Americans
This study examined attachment orientations and cultural practices of Asian Indian immigrants in the US. The study included 198 first- and second-generation Asian Indian Americans from various regions in the U.S., excluding sojourners. Second-generation Asian Indian American immigrants reported higher levels of attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance, and U.S.-based cultural practices, whereas first-generation participants reported higher levels…
Student age and racial disparities in teachers’ discipline evaluations
Young children’s representation of local information (angle and length) for relocation
As local spatial cues, angle and length information are known to be effective cues for relocation in adults, yet young children often struggle with using such information. We propose that the previously found late utilization of local geometric cues might be partly attributed to the testing environments, where connected enclosures provided immediate access to its global shape. Here, we investigated at what age children acquire the ability to relo…
Blindfolded adults’ use of geometric cues in haptic-based relocation
Altered Spontaneous Brain Activity Patterns of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction in Severely Obese Population Measured Using the Fractional Amplitude of Low-Frequency Fluctuations
Aberrant spontaneous activity was observed in multiple regions of the cerebrum, offering helpful information about the pathology of MGD in SO population. Aberrant fALFF values in these regions likely relates to the latent pathologic mechanisms of anomalous cerebral activities in PATs
Abnormal percent amplitude of fluctuation changes in patients with monocular blindness
The results of our study show abnormal activity in some brain regions in patients with MB, indicating that these patients may be at risk of disorder related to these brain regions. These results may reflect the neuropathological mechanisms of MB and facilitate early MB diagnoses
Altered Regional Homogeneity in Patients With Congenital Blindness
In patients with congenital blindness (CB), the lack of any visual experience may affect brain development resulting in functional, structural, or even psychological changes. Few studies to date have addressed or focused on the synchronicity of regional brain activity in patients with CB. Our study aimed to investigate regional brain activity in patients with CB in a resting state and try to explain the possible causes and effects of any anomalie…
Ocular Metastasis in Elderly Male Bladder Cancer Patients
Bladder cancer is a common type of tumor among elderly male population; it causes intraocular metastasis (IOM). The study investigated the differences between elderly male bladder cancer patients with and without IOM, and identified risk factors for IOM. In this study, 749 elderly male patients (aged ≥50 years) with bladder cancer were included from November 2003 to December 2016. Differences between the IOM and non-IOM (NIOM) groups were evaluat…
Understanding others’ knowledge certainty from inference and information-seeking behaviors in children
The current study investigated whether children understand the conditions under which another agent would hold uncertain knowledge resulting from inferential processes and, more importantly, whether children can make causal inferences about the relationship between the certainty of an agent's epistemic states and consequent behavioral strategies. We developed a game in which 3 blocks (2 of identical color) were hidden in 3 boxes. After the conten…
