  • Rest, Reactivity, and Recovery

Open Access•David Eddie, Marsha E Bates et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2018

Difficulty regulating emotion is a cardinal feature of borderline personality disorder (BPD), yet little is known about the automatic psychophysiological processes involved in this phenotype. Inconsistent findings have emerged from studies that employed limited assessments (e.g., heart rate variability, skin conductance) of autonomic nervous system response to emotional contexts, and compared groups based on the presence or absence of BPD as a ca…

  • Heart rate variability biofeedback

David Eddie, Evgeny Vaschillo et al.•ARTICLE•Addiction Research & Theory•2015

Heart rate variability biofeedback (HRV BFB) is a biobehavioural clinical intervention that is gaining growing empirical support for the treatment of a number of psychological disorders, several of which are highly comorbid with substance use disorders (SUDs). The present article reviews the autonomic nervous system bases of two key processes implicated in the formation and maintenance of addictive pathology—affect dysregulation and craving—and a…

  • Finding groups using model-based cluster analysis

    Eun Young Mun, EUN‐YOUNG MUN et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2008•Citada por: 5•Referências: 4

Model-based cluster analysis is a new clustering procedure to investigate population heterogeneity utilizing finite mixture multivariate normal densities. It is an inferentially based, statistically principled procedure that allows comparison of nonnested models using the Bayesian information criterion to compare multiple models and identify the optimum number of clusters. The current study clustered 36 young men and women on the basis of their b…

  • Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback Increases Baroreflex Gain and Peak Expiratory Flow

Paul M Lehrer, Evgeny Vaschillo et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2003

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated heart rate variability biofeedback as a method for increasing vagal baroreflex gain and improving pulmonary function among 54 healthy adults. METHODS: We compared 10 sessions of biofeedback training with an uninstructed control. Cognitive and physiological effects were measured in four of the sessions. RESULTS: We found acute increases in low-frequency and total spectrum heart rate variability, and in vagal baroreflex gain…
