Who Gains From Minimum Wage Increases? A Gender‐Based Distributional Analysis
This paper examines the distributional effects of minimum wage changes in the U.S., focusing on gender differences. Using CPS Merged Outgoing Rotation Group data (1990–2019) and a non‐parametric difference‐in‐differences approach, we find significant income shifts following minimum wage increases. Women, especially those aged 35–44, benefit more than men, with notable gains among Hispanic women, married individuals, and union members. We disaggre…
Do the determinants of foreign direct investment have a reverse and symmetric impact on foreign direct divestment
Negative foreign direct investment (divestment) between countries has received little attention in international macroeconomics. This is the first country-level study to investigate whether conventional drivers of bilateral foreign direct investment (FDI) have a reverse, but symmetric, impact on foreign direct divestment (FDD). Using bilateral negative and positive FDI data between 126 countries or territories, from 2005 to 2018, we find that con…
Which Institutions are Good for Your Health? The Deep Determinants of Comparative Cross-country Health Status

Our empirical results suggest that formal and informal institutions are substitutes. Improving informal institutions has positive effects on life expectancy that are statistically significant for most …

Testing for Financial Buffer Stocks in Sectoral Portfolio Models
Empirical implementation of the buffer stock money (DSM) notion tends to concentrate either on the 'shock absorber aspects or the 'spillover' ('disequilibrium money') aspects but rarely combines both. Moreover, a potential buffer role for non-money assets is usually precluded without explicit empirical testing. This paper examines the role of financial buffers in an ex ante sedtoral model of expenditure and portfolio behaviour incorporating both …
