What Does the Keane PTSD Scale of the MMPI Measure? Repeated Measurements in a Group of Patients with Major Depression
We looked at a group of depressed patients in a treatment study, none of whom by study design had Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). High scores on the PTSD (PK) scale could only be due to factors other than PTSD. Despite the absence of PTSD, we observed an extremely high false positive rate in a group given the MMPI on multiple occasions. 92% of the subjects had at least one T score at or above 65 on the PK scale. 44% of the men and the women…

Application of cut-off scores of 30, 35, and 40 on Keane's 46- and 49-item PK scales of the MMPI for a convenience sample of 1708 psychiatric patients shows a cut-off of 28 endorsed items of a 46-item scale increases classification as test positives by less than 3
Preferences by Mongolian Gerbils for Solutions of NaCL, d-Glucose and Sucrose in Two-Bottle Drinking Tests
Eighteen adult female gerbils were given two-bottle, 24-hr. preference tests of various concentrations of NaCl and water, d-glucose and water, and sucrose and water. Unlike the rat, the gerbils showed no preference for saline at any concentration (.01 to 9.0%). Peak preference was 10% for sucrose and 20% for d-glucose. Water Intake after Stomach Loads of NaCl in Mongolian Gerbils
Sixty mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus), 30 male and 30 female, were stomach loaded (2% b.w.) with either water or .9, 2, 6, 10, or 12% NaCl (wt x vol.). Unlike male rats, male gerbils did not lose weight. Female gerbils, like female rats, did not lose weight. However, female gerbils did not increase their water intake at any concentration, whereas males increased their water intake only at the 10 and 12% levels. These data are very much …
