Leisure as a Constraint and a Manifesto for Empowerment
Using a series of life-story interviews with a female migrant live-in caregiver in Beijing, this study examined the history and evolution of the migrant worker’s migration and the impacts it had on her leisure experience, identities, values, and social positions. This study examined the social aspects of tourism from the perspective of conspicuous consumption. In the context of Chinese outbound tourism, it aimed to capture how the concept of conspicuous consumption was constructed and operationalized through a process in which the tourists made sense of their subjective travel experience.
