Delay, Doubt and Dollars
This study investigated how delays and uncertainties shape the perceived value of hypothetical HIV vaccines under different cost conditions among sexual and gender minorities (SGMs). In Experiment 1 ( N = 260), participants chose between a 60% effective vaccine available immediately and a 99% effective vaccine with varying delays. Experiment 2 ( N = 246) assessed choices between a 55% effective vaccine with certain availability and a 95% effectiv…
Beyond the jab
This study was an investigation of the utility of behavioral economic demand curves (quantitative models showing how consumption changes with price) in assessing acceptance of hypothetical HIV vaccines among sexual and gender minorities (SGMs). Two experiments used simulated purchase tasks (hypothetical scenarios measuring purchasing decisions). SGMs were recruited through Reddit and LGBTQ+ community organizations across the United States. In Exp…

Do fast food restaurants surrounding schools affect childhood obesity
In this study, we estimate the effect of fast food environment surrounding schools on childhood body mass index (BMI). We use two methods that arrive at a similar conclusion, but with different implications. Using school distance from the nearest federal highway to instrument for restaurant location, we find the surrounding restaurants to only marginally affect a student's BMI measure. The effect size also decreases with increasing radial distanc…
