Multispectral Imaging as a Tool for Enhancing the Reading of Ostraca
A recent study shows that multispectral (MS) imaging can improve the legibility of ostraca. Several examples of Iron Age ostraca unearthed over twenty years ago in Israel (Ḥorvat ʿUza and Ḥorvat Radum) are presented, showing how new images taken with an MS system improve the reading of inscriptions that have significantly faded over time. The article provides instructions for constructing a simple and low-cost MS imaging system that yields compar…
New Typological Analyses of Early Bronze Age Holemouth Jars from Tel Arad and Southern Sinai
A novel computerized method for the morphological typology of ceramics was applied to the assemblages of Early Bronze holemouth jars found at Tel Arad and in Southern Sinai. This analysis demonstrates, in agreement with commonly accepted conclusions, that the holemouth cooking-pots found in Arad, which were made of materials alien to the Arad environment, and the holemouth jars found in Southern Sinai cannot be differentiated by their rim morphol…

The Egyptian Protodynastic (Late EB I) Site at Tel Ma'ahaz
In studies of the relations between Egypt and Canaan at the end of the Protodynastic Period and the beginning of the Early Dynastic Period, the site of Tel Ma'ahaz has played a central role since the 1960s. The information that has been published so far is based on surface finds and two short test excavations carried out in 1975 and 1976 (Amiran 1977; Amiran and Gophna 1993). Additional material collected at the site by its discoverer, Y. Divon, …

A Literary Ostracon from Horvat 'Uza
(Extrait de Res.d'A.). Despite the fact that more than half the words of the inscription are undecipherable, those that remain give the impression that this was an unconventional document. The content is never eonomic nor administrative (like most 8th-6th centuries B.C.E. ostraca from Israel and Judah), but rather of a literary character couched in elevated biblical language. (...)

The cultic site of ij:orvat Qitmit was discovered in the spring of 1979 during a survey conducted by the author in connetion with his excavations at Tel <Ira. The hill…

Two Cultures in Southern Sinai in the Third Millennium B. C
The first of the two cultures is represented and described by an EB II site discovered and excavated near Sheikh Muḥsen in central-southern Sinai. The site has the characteristics of the material culture of the Canaanite population that had penetrated into this area. The relationship between south Sinai and Palestine can be noted in the similarity of the architecture as well as of the pottery, flint tools, copper objects, etc. The second culture …
