  • The Cambridge Guide to the Worlds of Shakespeare

Open Access•Peter Whitfield, Susan Bennett et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Cambridge Guide to the Worlds of…•2019

The Cambridge Guide to the Worlds of Shakespeare aims to replicate the expansive reach of Shakespeare's global reputation. Guest editors Ton Hoenselaars and Clara Calvo have constructed thi…

    Open Access•Ton Hoenselaars•ARTICLE•Linguaculture•2010

In my paper, I look at the reception of Shakespeare in wartime, under circumstances that challenge and foreground the notion of national borders and territories within Europe. By looking at several Shakespeare cults during the Great War, I seek to illustrate how notions of the nation and of Europe are variable, and with it the concept of “European Shakespeare.”
