  • Do women’s perspectives of quality of care during childbirth match with those of providers? A qualitative study in Uttar Pradesh, India

Open Access•Sanghita Bhattacharyya, Aradhana Srivastava et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2018

BACKGROUND: Persistently high maternal mortality levels are a concern in developing countries. In India, monetary incentive schemes have increased institutional delivery rates appreciably, but have not been equally successful in reducing maternal mortality. Maternal outcomes are affected by quality of obstetric care and socio-cultural norms. In this light there is need to examine the quality of care provided to women delivering in institutions. O…

  • Development of a Person‐Centered Family Planning Scale in India and Kenya

    Open Access•May Sudhinaraset, Patience A Afulani et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•2018•Citada por: 11•Referências: 38

Despite recognition that person‐centered care is a critical component to providing high quality family planning services, there lacks consensus on how to operationalize and measure it. This paper describes the development and validation of a person‐centered family planning (PCFP) scale in India and Kenya. Cross‐sectional data were collected from 522 women in Kenya and 225 women in India who visited a health facility providing family planning serv…

  • Are village health sanitation and nutrition committees fulfilling their roles for decentralised health planning and action? A mixed methods study from rural eastern India

Open Access•Aradhana Srivastava, Rajkumar Gope et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Our study suggests that VHSNCs perform few of their specified functions for decentralized planning and action. If VHSNCs are to be instrumental in improving community health, sanitation and nutrition, they need education, mobilisation and monitoring for formal links with the wider health system

  • Participatory women’s groups and counselling through home visits to improve child growth in rural eastern India

Open Access•Nirmala Nair, Prasanta Tripathy et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

  • Delivery should happen soon and my pain will be reduced

Open Access•Sanghita Bhattacharyya, Aradhana Srivastava et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2013

BACKGROUND: Understanding a woman's perspective and her needs during childbirth and addressing them as part of quality-improvement programmes can make delivery care safe, affordable, and respectful. It has been pointed out that the patient's judgement on the quality and goodness of care is indispensible to improving the management of healthcare systems. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study is to understand the aspects of care that women consider…

  • Out-of-pocket expenditure on institutional delivery in India

    Open Access•Sanjay K Mohanty, Aradhana Srivastava•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2013•Citada por: 9•Referências: 21

CONTEXT: Though promotion of institutional delivery is used as a strategy to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, about half of the deliveries in India are conducted at home without any medical care. Among women who deliver at home, one in four cites cost as barrier to facility-based care. The relative share of deliveries in private health centres has increased over time and the associated costs are often catastrophic for poor households. Thou…

  • Linkages between public and non-government sectors in healthcare

Aradhana Srivastava, Sanghita Bhattacharyya et al.

Effective utilisation of collaborative non-governmental organisation (NGO)-public health system linkages in pluralistic health systems of developing countries can substantially improve equity and quality of services. This study explores level and types of linkages between public health sector and NGOs in Uttar Pradesh (UP), an underprivileged state of India, using a social science model for the first time. It also identifies gaps and challenges f…

  • District decision-making for health in low-income settings

Sanghita Bhattacharyya, Della Berhanu et al.•Citada por: 3•Referências: 19

Many low- and middle-income countries have pluralistic health systems where private for-profit and not-for-profit sectors complement the public sector: data shared across sectors can provide information for local decision-making. The third article in a series of four on district decision-making for health in low-income settings, this study shows the untapped potential of existing data through documenting the nature and type of data collected by t…

  • District decision-making for health in low-income settings

Meenakshi Gautham, Neil Spicer et al.•Citada por: 4•Referências: 15

Health information systems are an important planning and monitoring tool for public health services, but may lack information from the private health sector. In this fourth article in a series on district decision-making for health, we assessed the extent of maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH)-related data sharing between the private and public sectors in two districts of Uttar Pradesh, India; analysed barriers to data sharing; and identifi…
