  • Analysing inter-state communication dynamics and roles in the networks of the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation

    Open Access•Rubén Rodríguez-Casañ, Elisabet Carbó-Catalán et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2024

The International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IIIC) was an international organisation established post-World War I, aimed to foster intellectual relations for global peace. As this institution becomes centenary, the digitisation of archival records has democratised access, sparking renewed scholar interest and eventually enabling new research avenues. Here, we examine two letter collections from IIIC’s digitised funds, focusing on admi…

  • Quantifying Women’s Marginalisation in Ibero-American Film Culture During the First Half of the Twentieth Century

    Open Access•Ainamar Clariana-Rodagut, Alessio Cardillo•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Analytics•2024

The research presented here uses the tools of social network analysis to empirically show a socio-cultural phenomenon already addressed by the social sciences and history: the historical marginalisation of women in the field of cinema. The novelty of our approach lies in the use of a large amount of heterogeneous historical data. On the one hand, we built a network of interactions between people involved in the film field in Ibero-America during …

  • Street Centrality and the Location of Economic Activities in Barcelona

    Open Access•Sergio Porta, Latora et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2012•Citada por: 19•Referências: 33

The paper examines the geography of three street centrality indices and their correlations with various types of economic activities in Barcelona, Spain. The focus is on what type of street centrality (closeness, betweenness and straightness) is more closely associated with which type of economic activity (primary and secondary). Centralities are calculated purely on the street network by using a multiple centrality assessment model, and a kernel…

  • Street Centrality and Densities of Retail and Services in Bologna, Italy

Open Access•Sergio Porta, Emanuele Strano et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning B…•2009

This paper examines the relationship between street centrality and densities of commercial and service activities in the city of Bologna, northern Italy. Street centrality is calibrated in a multiple centrality assessment model composed of multiple measures such as closeness, betweenness, and straightness. Kernel density estimation is used to transform datasets of centrality and activities to one scale unit for analysis of correlation between the…
