  • Explaining inequalities in vulnerable children’s digital skills

    Open Access•Giovanna Mascheroni, Davide Cino et al.•ARTICLE•New Media & Society•2022•Citada por: 4•Referências: 14

While the Internet is part of everyday life for many children, inequalities exist in their digital skills, with little known about the influence of perceived discrimination on these inequalities. Building on survey data collected from nationally representative samples of 10,820 children aged 12–16 in 14 European countries, we seek to understand whether and how disadvantaged children may fall behind their more advantaged peers across Europe with r…

  • To grit or not to grit, that is the question

    Open Access•Alexander T Vazsonyi, Albert J Ksinan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2019•Citada por: 4•Referências: 45

The current study tested the validity of grit as a non-cognitive construct related to, yet distinct from self-control. Data were collected from N = 1907 adults spanning the life-course (53.1% female, M age = 41.4 years). Associations between grit and present and past goals were very similar to ones observed with self-control. Extensive model tests using structural equation modeling provided evidence of substantial overlap between these two constr…

  • Developmental Links Between Gaming and Depressive Symptoms

    Open Access•Jakub Mikuška, Alexander T Vazsonyi•ARTICLE•Journal of Research on Adolescence•2017•Citada por: 2•Referências: 4

The current longitudinal study tested the reciprocal relationships between video game play and depressive symptoms among 9,421 adolescents from the Add Health (M age = 16.15 years, SD = 1.64, 55% female), over 11 years (Waves 2, 3, and 4), ages 16 to 27. Based on structural equation modeling as well as latent growth models, findings indicated that (1) excessive gaming was largely transient over time, from adolescence to early adulthood; (2) exces…

Random effects mean corre…

  • The role of social motivation and sociability of gamers in online game addiction

    Open Access•Lukas Blinka, Jakub Mikuška•ARTICLE•Cyberpsychology Journal of…•2014

Massively multiplayer online (MMO) games represent a long-standing, intensive and wide spread type of online applications whose popularity continues to grow. Although just a mere entertainment and leisure activity for most gamers, its potentially negative and addictive outcomes were intensively studied and recently also acknowledged by the American Psychiatric Association (2013). MMOs are essentially a social activity, but empirical studies are e…
