Premorbid Weight Status Predicts Weight Gain During Treatment of Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa and Atypical Anorexia Nervosa
Outcomes of Pediatric Patients with Excessive Postural Tachycardia After Attending an Intensive Interdisciplinary Pain Program
Youth who demonstrated excessive postural tachycardia on active stand test at admission to an IIPT showed significant improvements from admission to discharge in their active stand maximum heart rate and heart rate increase, as well as respiration rate, muscle tension, and reports of their functioning. Future research is necessary to examine the mechanisms of change that contribute to symptom improvement
Sprains, Strains and Growing Pains
Early recognition of cognitive biases, including confirmation bias, anchoring bias, and ascertainment bias, is crucial for improving medical decision making, particularly in cases of rare or atypical presentations, reducing unnecessary diagnostic delays, and setting more realistic patient expectations. Through discussion of these cases, we highlight concrete steps to manage bias to facilitate timely diagnosis within the primary care and sports me…
School Attendance Pre- and Post-Pandemic in Adolescents with Chronic Pain
Background/Objective : The COVID-19 pandemic led to a widespread transition to online learning. Yet, it is unclear how this shift in learning format impacted school attendance in adolescents with chronic pain, a group that struggles with school absenteeism. This study compared school attendance and format (e.g., in-person, online) in patients with chronic pain attending an Intensive Interdisciplinary Pain Treatment Program (IIPT) before the pande…

Relationship Between Negative Mood and Health Behaviors in an Immigrant and Refugee Population
Neurocognitive Effects of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder
These preliminary findings suggest rTMS does not adversely impact neurocognitive functioning in adolescents and may provide subtle enhancement of verbal memory as measured by the CAVLT. Further controlled investigations with larger sample sizes and rigorous trial designs are warranted to confirm and extend these findings
Adolescent Deliberate Self‐Harm
Parents' responses to their children's emotional expressivity have been shown to significantly influence children's subsequent psychosocial functioning. This study hypothesized that adolescents' deliberate self‐harm (DSH) may be an outcome associated with poor emotion regulation as well as an invalidating family environment. The mediational role of specific emotion processes (i.e., poor awareness of emotion, difficulties expressing emotions) betw…
The Contribution of Emotion Regulation to Body Dissatisfaction and Disordered Eating in Early Adolescent Girls
Emotion Regulation Factors as Mediators Between Body Dissatisfaction and Bulimic Symptoms in Early Adolescent Girls
Research suggests that negative affect is an important mediator in the relationship between body dissatisfaction and bulimic symptoms. This study examines the mediational role of specific emotion regulation processes (i.e., negative emotionality, poor awareness of emotion, nonconstructive coping with negative emotion) in bulimic symptoms. In addition to these emotion regulation variables, body dissatisfaction and bulimic symptoms were assessed in…
