  • The fall after the rise

Matthew T McKenna, Eugene Mccray et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1998•Citada por: 3•Referências: 21

OBJECTIVES: Factors associated with decreases in tuberculosis cases observed in the United States in 1993 and 1994 were analyzed. METHODS: Changes in case counts reported to the national surveillance system were evaluated by dividing the number of incident cases of TB reported in 1993 and 1994 by the number of cases reported in 1991 and 1992 and stratifying these ratios by demographic factors, AIDS incidence, and changes in program performance. The following characteristics were associated with those physicians who do not report AIDS cases: not feeling responsible for reporting, not repo…

  • Human exposure to rabies from pet wild raccoons in South Carolina and West Virginia, 1987 through 1988

    Bradley A Woodruff, J Jones et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1991•Referências: 12

During 1987 and 1988, exposures to eight pet wild raccoons in South Carolina and West Virginia resulted in administration of rabies post-exposure prophylaxis to 19 children and 26 adults. All eight raccoons appeared normal at the time of capture, and three had no signs of illness when sacrificed. The direct medical cost resulting from these exposures was $23,714 ($527 per person). Regulations and public education may help decrease this type of ra…
