Strategies of Managing Repeated Measures
Ending the HIV Epidemic for Persons Left Behind in the Advances of HIV
The advent of antiretroviral therapy and biomedical prevention has transformed HIV from a fatal disease to a chronic condition where people with HIV (PWH) can live long, healthy lives. Yet, there remains a subset of PWH left behind from receiving timely HIV diagnosis and care. Implementing Rapid HIV Testing With or Without Risk-Reduction Counseling in Drug Treatment Centers
Objectives. We examined the effectiveness of risk reduction counseling and the role of on-site HIV testing in drug treatment. Methods. Between January and May 2009, we randomized 1281 HIV-negative (or status unknown) adults who reported no past-year HIV testing to (1) referral for off-site HIV testing, (2) HIV risk-reduction counseling with on-site rapid HIV testing, or (3) verbal information about testing only with on-site rapid HIV testing. Res…
HIV-positive patients' discussion of oral health with their HIV primary care providers in Miami, Florida
Over 90% of HIV-positive persons will have at least one oral manifestation of HIV disease during the course of infection. Clinical guidelines suggest that examination of the oral cavity should be included in initial and interim physical examinations of all HIV-infected patients by their HIV care providers. Clinically significant manifestations of oral disease may impact prescribed treatment regimens. The objective of this analysis was to describe…
Hospitalized HIV-Infected Patients in the Era of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy
We interviewed 1038 HIV-positive inpatients in public hospitals in Miami, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia, to examine patient factors associated with use of HIV care, use of antiretroviral therapy, and unprotected sexual intercourse. Multivariate analyses and multiple logistic regression models showed that use of crack cocaine and heavy drinking were associated with never having had an HIV-care provider, high-risk sexual behavior, and not receiving…
Factors Associated with Sexual Risk Behavior Among Persons Living with HIV
Characteristics of Ryan White and non-Ryan White funded HIV medical care facilities across four metropolitan areas
The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act 1990 (CARE Act) is one of the largest federal programmes funding medical and support services for individuals with HIV disease. Data that report services and gaps in service coverage from the organizational perspective are very limited. The Antiretroviral Treatment and Access Studies included a mail survey of 176 HIV medical care facilities in four US inner cities on clinic characteristics…
