  • Description and Evaluation of the 2009–2010 Pennsylvania Influenza Sentinel School Monitoring System

Vanessa L Short, Chandra K Marriott et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2011•Citada por: 1•Referências: 17

Objectives. We described and evaluated the 2009–2010 Pennsylvania Influenza Sentinel School Monitoring System, a voluntary sentinel network of schools that report data on school absenteeism and visits to the school nurse for influenza-like illness (ILI). Methods. Participating schools provided daily absenteeism and ILI data on a weekly basis through an online survey. We used participation and weekly response rates to determine acceptability, time…

  • Lead exposure in the construction industry

Kirsten Waller, Ana María Osorio et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1992•Citada por: 2•Referências: 8

The construction industry is exempt from the medical monitoring portions of the US Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration General Industry Lead Standard. Of 28 construction workers reported to the California Occupational Lead Registry through March 1989, 11 (39%) had blood lead levels of 2.90 mumol/L (60 micrograms/dL) or greater, the level at which immediate removal from lead exposure is mandated in nonconstruction industries. Man…

  • A cross-sectional study of pulmonary function in autobody repair workers

David L Parker, Kirsten Waller et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1991•Referências: 7

This study evaluated pulmonary function in workers from 39 autobody repair shops. Based on 152 White male workers with known smoking status, the mean percent predicted FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC were 93.6, 96.8, and 96.6, respectively. Twenty-three percent of workers had a FEV1/FVC ratio less than the fifth percentile. Isocyanate levels ranged from nondetectable to 0.06 parts per million (STEL = 0.02 ppm). No shop had an adequate respiratory protect…
