Anxiety-related behavioural responses to light-dark transitions in zebrafish larvae treated with a Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal water extract and selected withanolides
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal (Solanaceae) is used traditionally for anxiety; however, the activity of the distilled-water root extract and its major withanolide constituents remains incompletely characterised in larval zebrafish. AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate the anxiolytic-like effects of a distilled-water root extract and selected withanolides in a larval zebrafish model, and to explore predicted pharmacokinetic…
Influence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids depletion upon the biological activity of Symphytum officinale L. extracts
Natural product-derived therapies for treating drug-resistant epilepsies
A review on the ethnobotany, phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology of butterbur species (Petasites L.)
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Petasites (butterbur, Asteraceae) species have been used since Ancient times in the traditional medicine of Asian and European countries to treat central nervous system (migraine), respiratory (asthma, allergic rhinitis, bronchitis, spastic cough), cardiovascular (hypertension), gastrointestinal (ulcers) and genitourinary (dysmenorrhea) disorders. AIM OF THE REVIEW: This study summarized and discussed the tradition…
Mesembryanthemum tortuosum L. alkaloids modify anxiety-like behaviour in a zebrafish model
Symphytum officinale L
Vasorelaxant effects of Crataegus pentagyna
Inula helenium and Grindelia squarrosa as a source of compounds with anti-inflammatory activity in human neutrophils and cultured human respiratory epithelium
The present study demonstrated that Inula helenium and Grindelia squarrosa, which have been traditionally used in Europe as medicinal plants, are a valuable source of active compounds with anti-inflammatory activity. Our observations justify the traditional use of I. helenium and G. squarrosa for a treatment of inflammation-based diseases in respiratory tract
