  • Prevalence and stability of mental disorders among young adults

Open Access•Kristin Gustavson, Ann Kristin Knudsen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychiatry•2018

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders often have onset early in life, contribute substantially to the global disease burden, and may interfere with young people's ability to complete age-relevant tasks in important developmental periods. However, knowledge about prevalence and course of mental disorders in young adulthood is sparse. The aim of the current study was to estimate prevalence and stability of mental disorders from the twenties to the thirties/…

  • Cohort Profile Update

Pétursson Magnús, Per Magnus et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

This is an update of the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study (MoBa) cohort profile which was published in 2006. Pregnant women attending a routine ultrasound examination were initially invited. The first child was born in October 1999 and the last in July 2009. The participation rate was 41%. The cohort includes more than 114 000 children, 95 000 mothers and 75 000 fathers. About 1900 pairs of twins have been born. There are approximately 16 …

  • Does low alcohol use increase the risk of sickness absence? A discordant twin study

Open Access•Kristian Amundsen Østby, Nikolai Olavi Czajkowski et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

The increased level of sick leave observed with low level drinkers seems to be mainly explained by confounding from genetic factors. In all observational studies of the relationship between alcohol consumption and health, one should be aware that important genetic confounders are likely to influence the results

  • Mood, anxiety, and alcohol use disorders and later cause-specific sick leave in young adult employees

Open Access•Fartein Ask Torvik, Ted Reichborn-Kjennerud et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Mood and anxiety disorders constituted independent risk factors for all cause sick leave, whereas alcohol use disorders seemed to be of less importance in young adulthood. Disorders characterised by distress were most strongly associated with sick leave granted for mental disorders, whereas disorders characterised by fear primarily predicted sick leave granted for somatic conditions. A large part of all sick leave is related to specific phobia, d…

  • Socioeconomic status and sick leave granted for mental and somatic disorders

Open Access•Fartein Ask Torvik, Eivind Ystrom et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Low SES is associated with a higher level of sick leave granted for both mental and somatic disorders among young adults, but these associations are confounded by factors that are common to co-twins. Education and income are therefore not likely to strongly affect sick leave in young adulthood

  • Trauma exposure and Axis I psychopathology

Ruth C Brown, Erin C Berenz et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2013

Broad associations between trauma exposure (TE) and Axis I psychopathology have been noted in the literature. However, it is not clear if TE is directly associated with Axis I disorders or if the relationship is better accounted for by familial factors (i.e., early environment and/or genetic factors). The current investigation used the co-twin control method in a large sample of adult twin pairs from the Norwegian Twin Registry ( N = 2,776), incl…

  • Divergent associations of drinking frequency and binge consumption of alcohol with mortality within the same cohort

    Sidsel Graff-Iversen, Sidsel Graff‐Iversen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2013•Citada por: 1•Referências: 17

BACKGROUND: Observational studies show beneficial effects of moderate alcohol drinking on all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, while binge drinking has been linked with increased mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the associations of alcohol use with mortality in a population with a hybrid of drinking patterns. METHOD: Participants in a population based cardiovascular health survey in Finnmark county in 1987-1988, age…
