The "Earthrise" photograph, taken on the 1968 Apollo 8 mission, became one of the most significant images of the 20th Century. Dramatic escalation in metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk in a Chinese population experiencing rapid economic development
Cardiovascular risk escalated dramatically in this population between 2002 and 2010. The escalation may relate to the rapid economic development, which led to accelerating changes in nutrition, lifestyle, and socio-economic status. Our findings suggest that health transition in rapidly developing second- and third-world countries may be much faster than what has been observed in Western countries
Men in Macau SAR have higher prevalence in metabolic syndrome and among related metabolic components
We found significant gender differences in MetS among the 18-44 year old population of Macau, which should be addressed separately in the gender-specific preventive strategies
