  • Smoking cessation to prevent death and tuberculosis recurrence after treatment

Open Access•Haoxiang Lin, Lixin Xiao et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2024

Background: Although there is consistent evidence that smoking is a risk factor associated with tuberculosis (TB), whether smoking cessation improves treatment outcomes and reduces the risk of TB recurrence remains understudied. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study with a seven-year follow-up in China. We recruited newly-diagnosed TB patients and classified them as non-smokers, ex-smokers, and current smokers. Current smokers were inv…

  • Factors associated with the quitting intention among Chinese adults

    Open Access•Haoxiang Lin, Hao-xiang Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2023

The main objective of this study was to examine the use of protection motivation theory (PMT) in explaining smokers’ quitting intentions among Chinese adults with the goal of providing valuable evidence to promote theory-guided and culturally appropriate cessation interventions. This cross-sectional study included 613 participants randomly selected from 26 provinces in Mainland China. Cronbach’s alpha and interclass correlation coefficients (ICC)…

  • Efficacy of personalised text message intervention in reducing smoking frequency and amount for non-abstinent smokers

Open Access•Haoxiang Lin, Min Li et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2023

Background: Emerging evidence supports the efficacy of mobile phone interventions for smoking cessation. However, behaviour changes of smokers who fail to reach abstinence and the related psychological mechanism are still understudied. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a behaviour change theory-based smoking cessation intervention delivered through personalised text messages from the perspective of smokers who fail to reach abstinence. Methods…

  • Correlation analysis between physical activity and depressive tendencies among occupational groups

Open Access•Yihua Liu, Haoxiang Lin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Prolonged SB is common in the current workplace in China. Replacing an average of 30 min per day of SB with VPA and MPA, even walking is associated with less depression among workers. In addition, insufficient daily sleep is also an important risk factor for workers' depressive tendencies. These findings provide valuable evidence to promote mental health among occupational groups and support the development of healthy workplaces

  • Protection motivation theory and smoking quitting intention

Open Access•Haoxiang Lin, Meijun Chen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

This study finds that PMT is a sound theoretical framework for predicting smoking quitting intention among adults. Coping appraisal has a stronger effect than threat appraisal for predicting quitting intention. Mediation analyses confirmed that extrinsic rewards and response efficacy mediated the relationship between PMT constructs and quitting intention. Our findings are essential for understanding quitting behaviour among adults and support mor…

  • The association of workplace smoke-free policies on individual smoking and quitting-related behaviours

Open Access•Haoxiang Lin, Min Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Our study identified that although most companies had established workplace SF policies, the overall prevalence of SHS exposure remained very high. Workplace SF policy is associated with lower SHS exposure, lower overall current smoking and higher awareness of smoking harm. These findings provide valuable evidence to promote such policies in all workplaces

  • The effect of the presence of children on adult smoking behaviour

Open Access•Haoxiang Lin, Chun Chang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

Our findings confirm the existence of the upward intergenerational effect of the presence of children on adults' smoking behaviour in China. However, such effects are not equal across all demographic characteristics. Future research could explore other parts of the upward mechanism and possible pathways for a stronger effect. In resource-poor areas, targeting cessation activities at those who have children at an early age may be an effective stra…

  • Spillover effects of children’s political status on elderly parents’ health in China

Xin Zhao, Yi Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2018•Citada por: 5•Referências: 31

BACKGROUND: Due to the sustained increases in life expectancy over the past half century, the elderly today will receive supports from their children for a longer period than ever before. Therefore, understanding the spillover effects of children's socioeconomic status on parents' health becomes increasingly important for both scholars and policy makers. METHODS: The Ordinary Least Squares regression is applied to the China Health and Retirement …

  • A global reference for human genetic variation

Open Access•Corresponding authors, Adam Auton et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2015

The 1000 Genomes Project set out to provide a comprehensive description of common human genetic variation by applying whole-genome sequencing to a diverse set of individuals from multiple populations. Here we report completion of the project, having reconstructed the genomes of 2,504 individuals from 26 populations using a combination of low-coverage whole-genome sequencing, deep exome sequencing, and dense microarray genotyping. We characterized…
