  • The Roman Republican castellum of Puig Castellar (Biosca)

Open Access•Esther Rodrigo Requena, Núria Romaní Sala et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Roman Archaeology•2022•Citada por: 1•Referências: 4

This paper illustrates the results of research carried out at the archaeological site of Puig Castellar de Biosca (Catalonia, Spain), located in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula. This Republican military fortress, a castellum, is exceptional due both to its early chronology, which ranges between 180 and 120 BCE, and to the fact that it acted as a long-lasting military installation situated in a pacified area on the periphery of the Celtiber…

  • Methods of Palaeodemography

Open Access•Alejandro G Sinner, César Carreras Monfort et al.•ARTICLE•Oxford Journal of Archaeology•2019•Referências: 22

Ancient demography is a recurrent topic in archaeology, thanks to new methods and evidence from different surveys and excavations. However, different cultures or periods are studied on their own, without any comparison being made between them and of their population dynamics. The present paper seeks to advance the situation by defining methodologies to allow diachronic comparisons between two different periods and cultures. After setting out a me…

  • The Roman Transport Network

César Carreras Monfort, Cèsar Carreras et al.•ARTICLE•Historical Methods A Journal of…•2013•Citada por: 2•Referências: 8

In the last years, the use of geographical information systems has been common in many historical and geographical studies. Perhaps one of the least known applications is network analysis, a series of functions related to hydrology and mobility. Since 1994, researchers have used network analyses to understand costs and time expenditure in transportation in Roman times, with the aim of modeling commercial routes. Archaeological objects were employ…

  • The Atlantic Roman Trade During the Principate

Open Access•César Carreras Monfort, Cèsar Carreras et al.•ARTICLE•Oxford Journal of Archaeology•2012•Citada por: 2•Referências: 5

In this paper new evidence is presented for long‐distance trade in the western Atlantic in the Roman period, chiefly from Augustus to the second century AD, on the basis of documented shipwrecks and numerous amphora types. Well‐dated contexts from northern Portugal and Spain, as well as similar sites in northern France and Germany, suggest a thriving trade of amphora‐borne commodities during the Principate. The Atlantic route was initially develo…
