  • Using community science data to investigate urban Coyotes ( Canis latrans ) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Open Access•Christopher B Mowry, Adél Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Human Dimensions of Wildlife•2020

Coyote activity was investigated in Atlanta, Georgia from 2015 to 2018 using publicly collected data. More than 500 reports were received annually (1,672 total) and analysis revealed bias toward areas of higher income and education. Human-coyote encounters, defined as an interaction at close range, were rare (196; 12% of observations), but 124 of those reports (63%) indicated the presence of pets nearby. Coyotes were less likely to be observed in…

  • The importance of protein in leaf selection of folivorous primates

    Open Access•Jörg U Ganzhorn, Joerg U Ganzhorn et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2017

Protein limitation has been considered a key factor in hypotheses on the evolution of life history and animal communities, suggesting that animals should prioritize protein in their food choice. This contrasts with the limited support that food selection studies have provided for such a priority in nonhuman primates, particularly for folivores. Here, we suggest that this discrepancy can be resolved if folivores only need to select for high protei…
