  • Bonobos

    Steven C Johnson, Raymonde Bonnefille et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1981•Citada por: 14•Referências: 5

Neontological, biochemical, and paleontological data indicate that the bonobo, Pan paniscus, is a specialized form that possesses relatively small teeth, is quadrupedally adapted, and is only minimally sexually dimorphic. The various specializations of bonobos could be adaptations to ecological restrictions encountered in the terrestrial island of tropical forest that comprises their home range. Bonobos possess specializations quite different fro…

  • Dryopithecus and adaptations in Miocene great apes

    K N Prasad•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1980

  • Observations on mid‐tertiary hominoids Sivapithecus and Ramapithecus

    Open Access•K N Prasad•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1969•Citada por: 1•Referências: 7

Detailed palaeontological analyses of the hominoids of the Miocene indicate the occurrence of forms belonging to Pongidae and Hominidae. Of these, Sivapithecus (Pongidae) with three contained species and Ramapithecus (Hominidae) with two distinct species can be recognized. These two families Pongidae and Hominidae were sufficiently well defined and distinct by the late Miocene about 14 million years ago. The author has discussed in brief the stat…
